HomeMy WebLinkAboutCultural Resources Board - Minutes - 11/30/1988(-- Cusal, Library & Recreational Seras Lincoln Center Cite of Fort Collins REGULAR MEETING CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD Wednesday, November 30, 1988 5:15 pm Lincoln Center Present: William Kneeland, James Weitz, James Petersen, Jane Folsom, Jane Nevrivy Absent: Christine Jones, Ruth Hornberger Staff: David Siever, Brian Moroney, Mark Breimhorst, Linda Green I Call to order - 1,1,001 - 5:21 pm by Vice -Chair Jane Folsom II Consideration of tonigh's agenda - 1,1,005 III Consideration of minutes of October 26, 1988 - 1,1,019 -Under Museum report, change "Officers" to "Board" for item concerning "Friends" group. -Move "Other Items" placed with committee reports as follows: Report on Old Post Office meeting - put under "Other Business." Discussion of PVAL proposal - put under "Fort Fund" Update. James Petersen moved to accept minutes with changes, seconded by James Weitz, passed 5-0. IV Staff Reports - 1,1,031 Lincoln Center - David Siever A written report was distributed, Mr. Siever discussed: -Update on Choices '95 items. South parking lot lighting will be done by the Facilities Department. The feasibility study has been removed from Choices '95 and will be done in another manner. Mr. Siever will keep Board updated as to how the study will be funded. The bathroom renovation will still be done but again from other sources unless it remains in Choices '95; there is support to get them redone. -There is a replacement show for Bobby McFerrin but cannot be published yet at this time. Information will be released as soon as possible. -Still considering dropping the dance series due to lack of sales. -Discussed loss on Steve Allen show. -Liquor License Board will be meeting tonight to approve new concession- naire and will include servicing the Terrace. Fort Collins Museum - Brian Moroney A written report was distributed. Mr. Moroney discussed: -The State of the Museum report- Board was asked to read and this will be a future agenda item for further discussion. -Discussed the tentative plans for the 125th Anniversary. It will become part of a larger festival, still keeping historic theme. -Discussed the Charlie Russell show which has been extremely successful. Channel 4 will be doing a feature and there has been a lot of interest from Denver. -Discussed need for additional hourly employees to help cover exhibit and get projects done. 417 k%, I Strut • Furl Cblhns, CO 81521-264o, • (303) 221-6735 -Tours have been increasing and there as been good attendance at all the programs. -The Museum will be doing a display of antique Christmas ornaments. -The conservator doing the storage study has completed evaluating the outlaying areas. A written report will be available and will be used to try to get a grant from the Institute for Museum Services. V Committee reports - 1,1,376 Old Fort signage - Jane Nevrivy -Project essentially done - Jane and her husband Tom will cover the remainder of the costs as a personal donation. Museum Sub -committee - James Weitz -Did not meet in November. Will be meeting again this week and will continue discussions. Larimer County Historic Alliance (formally Larimer County Historic Trust) James Weitz -Attended the most recent meeting and reported that they are hoping to unite some of the various historic groups to get better cooperation. VI Fort fund update - 1,1,423 -Linda Green discussed the two informational seminars. She will also be attending the Arts and Humanities Council brown bag on Wednesday. -There were no events updates since last meeting. -Linda Green explained the review process. She will send out guidelines and proposals before January 11th meeting. This meeting will be held at Lincoln Center. Liaisons will be appointed before the review meeting. The amount available for funding will be available at that meeting. -A letter was received from the Fort Collins Festival Committee explaining the change in the set-up for the Festival. The Board discussed the project. James Weitz moved to request return of the funds, William Kneeland seconded, passed 5-0. ACTION: Jane and Chris will write a letter to the Festival Committee requesting return of the $1,000. It will be suggested that they reapply during this next funding session. VII Annual report - 1,2,031 A rough draft of the annual report was distributed. Discussion was tabled to the January meeting. The Board was asked to review the report and bring any changes to January meeting. The annual report must be approved at that meeting and be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by January 31. VIII Goals and objectives - 1,2,053 Latest update was distributed. This item was tabled until January meeting. The Board was asked to bring all additions and changes to next meeting so these can be approved and included with annual report as the work plan for 1989. IX Other Business - 1,2,067 -Mr. Siever discussed the lobby decorations which were done by Steve Haddan this year. The League purchased some new permanent decorations for the Center. James Weitz volunteered to write a thank you note to Steve. James Petersen also volunteered to give Steve a call. ....__ _.... ...... -Board decided to have a Christmas get-together at the Catacombs on Monday, December 12. Linda will call and remind Board on that Monday. James Weitz moved to adjourn meeting, seconded by Jane Nevrivy, passed 5-0. Preparations are being made for the display of antique Christmas oranaments recently acquired B. The conservator from the Rocky Mountain Conservation Center will complete our conservation survey Dec. 9 6 10 11 CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD LINCOLN CENTER REPORT - "The Terrace" opening was Nov. 4th. Champagne and hors doerves were underwritten by KCOL/KIMN. Approximately 300 people attended. Lincoln Center Board still raising funds - $7,000 needed to complete project. — Great Christmas Hall was successful. Attendance for Christmas Hall and Hall of Trees was over 5,000. Support League doesn't have final accounting finished. --36 people will be leaving on New York Theatre Tour Dec. 7- Dec. 11. Mark Breimhorst and David Siever will be attend- ing ACUCAA Conference in New York City Dec. 14-19. - Christmas decorations for the Center have been provided by Haddans Flower Gallery. - Donations: $7,000 from Target for Children's Series $2,000 from Norlarco for Travel Series - November Performing Arts Events Ririe Woodbury Odd Couple Ft.
