HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuman Relations Commission - Minutes - 09/18/1987a Y CITY OF FORT COLLINS OFFICE OF EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT HUMAN RELATION COMMISSION RETREAT MINUTES August 19, 1987 The meeting was called to order by Susan Lamb at 4:40 p.m. Susan introduced Allen, "Pete", Taylor who acted as facilitator for the meeting. Present Sam Blanco Susan Lamb David Lipp Steve Francis Chuck Griffin Mary Shultz Rosemary Sheridan Randy Ross Absent Paul Loopo Staff Jaime Mares Guest Pete Taylor Minutes : Minutes were approved as distributed Committee Reports: CED : Susan added to achievements: Training of Housing Testers EEO/AA : Sam reported that City Attorney is reviewing the latest AA Plan and upon approval, it will be distributed to HRC. Police : Randy reported on last year's events. CAB : Mary reported on last year's events. HRC Award : Susan reported on last year's events. Anti -Discrimination : Mary reported on last year's events. AIDS : Susan reported on last year's events. Martin Luther King Day Committee: David reported on last year's events. Steve Francis was elected Vice -Chair. Mary Shutlz was elected Secretary. Following the Election of Officers, the meeting adjourned for dinner. Following the dinner, the meeting again continued. Pete Taylor discussed what makes successful meetings, explained consensus, and his role in assisting the commission in coming to consensus. The first item of business was to revise the HRC Bylaws. The bylaws were revised as follows (see attached): Section I - Purpose of the Commission: Delete current Section I and insert Fort Collins City Ordinance pertaining to the Commission, omitting section F. Section II - Membership: Remains the same except to add an attendance statement. Section III - Officers, tenure and duties remains the same. Section IV - Committees: A. Standing Committees: I. CED - remains the same. 2. EEO/AA - remains the same. 3. Human Relations awards changed to read: To annually recognize and commend a deserving individual, and group, company or organization for inspiring contributions and leadership on behalf of minority, or disadvantaged citizens or betterment of the community. 4. Police subcommittee - remains the same. 5. Community Action Committee - remains the same. 6. Other Committees - The president (or chair) of the Commission shall establish any other committees prior to the next Commission meeting for the length of time needed to accomplish stated purposes as need shall arise in order to carry out Commission functions. Section V - Conduct of business remains the same. Section VI Changes and amendments remains the same. Section VII - Continuing Relation of the Commission to the City Council remains the same. The Commission then broke to sign for sub -committees. (see attached) Each subcommittee is to meet before the September HRC meeting to establish goals for the next year. Goals should be submitted for the HRC September agenda. Next meeting is September 16, 1987. Meeting adjourned.
