Staff Reports - (See attached) Fort Collins Museum - Joy Poole Lincoln Center - David Siever V. Committee Reports Convention/Visitors Bureau - No Report Lincoln Center Board - Karen Warren Most of the items discussed in the Lincoln Center report had been discussed at the LC Board meeting. Riverwalk item to be discussed later this evening under the Liason agenda item. Review of Fort Fund Guidelines After much discussion the time was needed to work or meeting was set for Monday Center. Food will be brainstormed the following follow up discussion: Board decided that more the various issues. A May 17th at the Lincoln provided. The Board items which need - How do we handle fund raisers - Start ups vs ongoing events New West Fest 3 year deadline - Parent organizations the same/event differs - Should Fort Fund be used to fund tourism or is it to promote cultural events - Re -look evaluation form - Re -look liasons - Publicity/clippings - Marketing and definition of programming account VII. Cultural Plan Discussion Discussion was held regarding the Community Wide Cultural Plan. September 1991 the consulting firm of Hamer Siler George worked with the Cultural Resources Board, staff, and the community to design a planning process. The cost estimate to conduct a community wide cultural plan is $42,000 including professional fees and expenses. Craig Swing moved to have staff draft a letter for the Board to send to City Council recommending that if Council is planning to initiate a Community Wide Cultural Plan as stated in council's work plan, that they appropriate $42,000 in the 1994 budget for hiring a firm to prepare the plan. Museum Storage Joy Poole is checking with other museums in the area to see if there is a possibility for joint storage. Poudre R-I Schools are not an option as they say the abandoned schools will be used for new curriculums. The Board would like to stress the need for museum storage in the 1994 budget. Joy Poole will work on possible solutions and the dollar amounts and it will be discussed further at the May 17th meeting. IX. Budget items The letter regarding the Cultural Plan will be reviewed at the May 17th meeting, along with the museum storage solutions. X. Siever Cultural Resources Board Lincoln Center Report April 28, 1993 Summer Sculpture Sculpture show this summer will be "Art on a Stick" curated by Bill Amundson. All sculpture will be designed for poles, etc. including banners, bird houses, whirligigs, etc. Photo Exhibit A new photo exhibit "Living with the Enemy" has been accepted by the Art Review committee for 1994. Theme is battered women. Crossroads Safehouse will do a benefit in connection with the exhibit. City/Poudre R-I Banners As a result of a workshop/residency with Banner Artist Mettje Swift involving teachers and students, banners are in the mall as part of the Foothills Mall student show. Following the show they will be permanently installed at 281 N. College, Children's Clinic, the New High School, Blevins and Webber Jr. High. Lilla B. Morgan Series Fund raising letters have been sent for Lilla B. Morgan series. We have received $2,100 in contributions for the first year of a three year commitment. We need to receive at least $2,500. Renewals for the dance series will be sent out by the end of April. Scheduling Brochure A new sales brochure for scheduling of rooms has been completed and should be returned from printers April 30th. New or Used Piano in Need The Center is looking for a good used or new upright piano. The Support League has agreed to purchase it. Support League has also purchased additional outdoor plants for the Terrace. New Carpet The design committee is working on choosing carpet for the Columbine, Canyon West and Mini -Theatre. The carpet will be installed this summer. Cultt&, Library and Recreational Serves Fort Collins Museum FORT COLLINS MUSEUM APRIL 28, 1993 THE GRAND RE -OPENING CELEBRATION brought 400 people to the museum on April 16th. Clowns, a Mime, and balloon animals roamed the galleries as Eagle-Tri 102 did a live broadcast from the Gift Shop. Hot dogs, peanuts and sodas were served for the festive new exhibit "Under the Big Top". Alison White, the Museum's Development Officer did a terrific job of raising $2,100 from local businesses and clubs in support of "Under the Big Top". The Museum is grateful to Overland Sertoma, Bank One, Ranchway Feeds, Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Anheuser Busch for their generous support. "Eskimo Prints and Carvings" is currently on display in the Overland Trail Room. Both exhibits will be on display through the end of May. THE MUSEUM SHOP was opened by Eileen Daniel and Deanna Harpham with sales of $300.00 on the day of the Grand Re -Opening. Our City Manager, Steve Burkett, was our first shop customer. He was featured on Cable 14. EXHIBITS The American Association of University Women Educational Foundation awarded Joy Poole, (AAUW member) and the Fort Collins Museum $4200.00 to create a temporary portable exhibit about the life of Auntie Stone as part of the Colorado Centennial Women's Suffrage Event. The final exhibition place for the exhibit will be the Auntie Stone Cabin in the museum courtyard. DEVELOPMENT Alison White recently sent a direct mail letter asking local residents for financial support for the Fort Collins Museum. The response has been steady with just over $1,600.00 in donations to date. STAFF Jill Gardner, Museum Assistant, has taken a curatorial position at the Hiwan Homestead Museum in Evergreen. She will remain through a portion of the summer at the Fort Collins Museum until a new person is hired and trained.
