HomeMy WebLinkAboutGolf Board - Minutes - 10/16/1985CITY OF FORT COLLINS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT GOLF BOARD MINUTES: Regular Meeting - October 16, 1985 The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Vice President Dick Zubradt. Board Members Tom Skillman and Alternate Al Cavallaro called to say they could not attend. Agenda Review: No changes to the printed agenda. Citizen Participation: No citizen participation. Minutes: The minutes of the last regular meeting of Septem er 18, 1985, were approved unanimously, as submitted, on a motion by John Drescher, seconded by Dan Preble. Open Forum Discussion Three of the five members of the City Park Nine Clubhouse Review Committee (John Drescher, Dave Sadler, and Jim Greer) met recently and agreed that the attached cart shed needs to be torn down and a new maintenance building (similar to the metal storage building at Grandview Cemetery) should be constructed. The restrooms and kitchen can be reworked and some basic improvements made. Jerry P. Brown guessed that this work could cost between $75,000 and $125,000+. He requested that the committee draft a written report and schedule another meeting during November. Dick Zubradt made a suggestion that for a change of pace it might be interesting at Collindale to start everyone on Hole #10 instead of #1, and #1 would become #10. Everyone agreed to recommend to Bill Metier to try this as an experiment on a daily or even weekly basis. Dick said it gives the round of golf a new perspective. Other Business Jerry reported that there is a City program to complete sidewalks in areas where it is judged that there should be a sidewalk. The City pays 50 percent of the improvement and the property owner pays the other 50 percent. The City Engineer has informed us that this program will be utilized at City Park Nine Golf Course adjacent to the 6th fairway on Mulberry Street. The existing sidewalk ends at approximately Crestmore Place, which is nearly two-thirds of the length of the golf course property. The remaining 250 feet or so will be improved prior to next spring, which should cost the Golf Fund around $500. John Drescher vehemently opposed this action. He doesn't believe golfers' money should be used for this and it should be paid for by the City. Others expressed concern about having a sidewalk at all, as it brings non -golfers onto the course who could be hit by golf 0 Golf Board Minutes--2 balls. Jerry pointed out that joggers use the area now on Mulberry and there is a 'path' existing where the sidewalk ends. John fully disagrees with the project and especially with making golfers pay for it. He said he plans to contact the City Manager and/or Council members to air his concerns. - Jerry reported that the liability insurance coverage for the City is going up 277 percent, which will mean around $6,000 in additional costs to the Golf Fund in 1986. - The 1985 budget looks good at this point in the year. Expenditures through September (75 percent of the year) are at 73 percent and revenues are at 94 percent. Revenues are still running six percent to nine percent behind the same time periods in 1981 through 1983, our record breaking years. Staff projects year end expenses at 98 percent and revenues at 100 percent. - John Drescher noted what an excellent job Derek Cordova has done as the Collindale Snack Bar Concessionaire this year. He has not only upheld his contractual promises, he has also provided the City much more money ($1,000 more) than his original bid minimum guarantee. - Annual pass sales for 1985 are at 583, which is 17 short of the staff projected figure of 600. However, we probably will sell a few more around Christmas time. The meeting was adjourned at 8:23 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Dan Preble Board Secretary Meetinq Attendance Board Members Staff Guests Dick Zubradt Jerry P.
