Cultural Resources Board
Special Call Meeting
(due to June meeting cancellation)
July 6, 1981, 4 p.m., Avery House
Present: CRB - Jim Weitz, Michael Griffith, Jack Curfman, Rosalyn Spencer, Pauline
Birky-Kreutzer, Barbara Cain, Colleen Cassell
Staff - Ellen Thexton, Brian Moroney, Edwina Echevarria
I The meeting was called to order by Colleen Cassell, Chairperson.
II The agenda was approved. The minutes of the May 27, 1981 meeting were approved
as written. In regard to City Council's request that all Boards' and Commissions'
minutes be sent to Council within one week after the meeting is held, the
Board made the following reco:mendation: Send the minutes to Council within the
time period required, adding the disclaimer at the time: Minutes subject to
approval.
III Election of officers: The nominating committee offered the names of Jim Weitz
as Chairperson Michael Griffith as Vice -Chai
rperson. rperson. There were no other
nominations from the floor and a motion was made and seconded that the slate be
approved. Vote: Ayes: Unanimous.
IV Support letters for Cultural Resources and Lincoln Center budgets:
A. The Board went over the proposed 1982 Lincoln Center budget.
B. The CRB will write a letter to go to Council on July 14, 1981, stating:
support of Cultural Resources' 1982-proposed budget plus acnowiedgenent of
receipt of copies of Lincoln Center's proposed 1982 budget and of the
support letter from the Lincoln Center League.
C. Ellen Thexton announced that because there are so many new Council
members, she plans to present the Cultural Resources budget to Council in
the form of a retrospective history. Jim Weitz will represent the Cultural
Resources Board at the July 7 budget hearing with Council.
D. The Board discussed the possibility of a tour of the old Opera House on
north College Avenue, with the idea of possible local historic designation
in mind.
V Update of Historic Landmarks issue - The board discussed the Electric Stampede
issue.
VI The Board discussed the proposed renovation plans and the grant project, headed
by Eleanor Gale, Inc., to raise $65,000 for the Museum Courtyard (the Schoolhouse
in particular).
VII Fort Collins 117th birthday celebration, announced by Colleen Cassell: Sunday,
August 16; ice cream social, tours of Old Town, trolley restoration viewing,
antique cars, music.
