Regular Meeting
March 23, 1983 7:30 p.m.

I The meeting was called to order by Michael Griffith, Chairperson.
II An item was added to the agenda:VII 8b. County landmarks preservation
III The minutes of the meeting of February 23 were approved as written.
IV Staff Reports
A. Lincoln Center, David Siever reporting:
1. Fred Gardner has completed the outdoor sign for the Meldrum & Magnolia Streets
entrance.
2. The security gates for the gallery area have been ordered. Approximately
$900. of the Madge Everitt fund will go towards the cost of the gates. Money remaining in
that fund will be used towards purchase of the exterior Ludlow Roaas sign.
3. The IPAS system is in and being used now. Mr. Siever encouraged the Board to
try the units out. The Junior Women's Club has money for 2 more sets. Lincoln Center
docents will be trained to operate the units so they can help patrons.
4. Lincoln Center will be getting a City electric vehicle.
5. Grants:
a. A grant received from the Fort Collins Council on the Arts and Humanities
for $1,000 will pay for half of the cost of choral risers. The remaining $1,500 needed will
be donated by Lincoln Center, Larimer Chorale and the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra.
b. 2 sources of donations/grants will go towards the purchase of Wenger
symphony risers: (1) some of the money made from the Mayor's Ball (co -sponsored by United
Bank and Mountain Bell) and (2) A direct grant from Mountain Bell.
6. February report figures:
Attendance is up 32% (26,000) over February of last year.
Events are up 13% (167) over February of last year.
Revenues are up 22% ($14,399) over Feb. of last year.
Attendance is up 14% over last year at this time.
Events are up 3% over last year at this time.
Revenues are up 23% over last year at this time.

7. Lincoln Center is still working out some of the details in scheduling for

Performing Arts may use up its fund reserve this year and may need to request funds from
the Fort Collins Foundation. A grant request for $10,000 has been submitted to the Colorado
Council on the Arts & Humanities. The final 2 shows of the series are caning up: Pacific
Northwest Ballet and CoSaan.
Mr. Breimhorst distributed the confirmed LC Arts Series 1983-84 schedule, remarking that the
subscription series tickets prices will remain the same and that he will try to sell a block
of series tickets to corporations.
B. Museum Brian Moroney reporting:
1. The security gate in the downstairs hallway has been installed.
2. The partition in the mineral storage room has been constructed.
3. Phase I of the Schoolhouse project was virtually finished before the
snowy days began. There are approximately 2 more days of work remaining on Phase I.
4. The Museum is in the midst of an exhibit change. Hats dating from early
Victorian days through the 1960's will be on exhibit March 26-July 3.
5. New storage space has been obtained - the four -car garage behind the Old
Power house on N. College Ave. Items from the Strang elevator will be moved to the Power
House next week.
6. Edwina Echevarria announced the upcoming historic preservation speaker/
discussion/film series "Here Today... Here Tomorrow", March 30, April 6, 13 and 20, co-
sponsored by the Museum and the City Dept. of Planning and Development and held at the
Museum.
7. The County Sheriff's deputies.have offered the Museum items of evidence
gathered in connection with its investigations from past years.
8. The Poudre Landmarks Foundation has received offers of 5 dining room tables
from 5 different sources, as a result of the recent newspaper article on the Avery House.
V Report from Ellen Thexton - Pauline Birky Kreutzer reporting for Mrs. Thexton
In December 1981, $5,000 was transferred from Mrs. Thexton's budget to the
Boxelder Schoolhouse project. Recently, the $1,500 needed to complete the historic
landmarks publication was approved.
VI Schedule work session for historic properties discussion: Tuesday, Apr. 12, 7:30 a.m.
at the Museum.

VII Old Business
A. Update on 218 West Magnolia:
1. Mr.,Griffith distributed to the Board copies of the letter of reply of 3-3-83 he
received from James King, owner of the hut.
2. Michael Griffith will prepare a letter of inquiry to be sent to different
organizations, for the purpose of finding a group to take on the project of the hut. The
Board discussed the possible content of that letter and members of the Board were
requested to send to Ms. Echevarria suggested names and addresses of groups the letters
might be sent to.
B. County landmarks preservation:
Jun Weitz has been discussing with the County Comnissioners the feasibility of
a Larimer County Landmarks Preservation Commission or Board. Mr. Hotchkiss has expressed
some interest and envisions an inventory of County landmarks that should be preserved.
Mr. Weitz and Russ Legg (both County employees) have been assigned by Commissioner Hotchkiss b
investigate the possibility of County involvement in historic preservation.
Next meeting: Wednesday, May 4, 7:30 p.m., Fort Collins Museum.
