HISTORIC LANDMARKS Cultural Resources Board February 22, 1984 - 4:30 p.m. Museum M I N U T E S CRB Present: Jack Curfman, Alyce Milton, Rosalyn Spencer, Jim Weitz CRB .Absent: Pauline Birky-Kreutzer, Michael Griffith, Barbara Cain Staff Present: Brian Moroney, David Siever, Mark Breimhorst, John Dewhirst, Edwina Echevarria Guest: Betsy Norton, CSU intern at Museum I The meeting was called to order by Alyce Milton, Vice Chairman. II The agenda for the evening was approved. III The minutes of the meeting of January 25, 1984, were approved as written. IV Staff Reports A. Lincoln Center, Mr. Siever reporting: 1. The Canyon West Room project is on hold until the quarter -cent sales tax question is decided. 2. A John Burland sculpture will be created and will be placed in Lincoln Center as a memorial to Ellen Thexton. 3. The Colorado Council on the Arts and Humanities' grants panel, of which David Siever is a member, will meet early in March to select grant recipients. 4. Mark Breimhorst reporting: Lincoln Center room rental promotion campaign will feature an Abe Lincoln theme. B. Museum, Mr. Moroney reporting: 1. The Museum's new Curator of Collections, Karin Eberhart, began work yesterday. The Museum is very much pleased to have her on the staff. One of her main tasks will be to do an inventory of the whole collection, with a locator file. An in- house computer for Collections will eventually be needed. 2. The Museum has been offered the Colonel Collins family bible, by one of Col. Collins' relatives living back East. 3. Some things from the Lyman Nichols estate (a long-time Fort Collins resident who died recently) will be donated to the Museum. 4. Ross Loomis, of the CSU Psychology Department, & former CRB member, plus specialist in research on museum visitors, will be working with the Museum to come up with an effective and comprehensive labeling policy. a i 6. The Parks Service recently completed survey report of apparent mainten- ance problems at the Avery House. Mr. Moroney will send the report, along with recommendations and a memo, to Tom Frazier. 7. The Museum will loan the Poudre Landmarks Foundation 15-20 furniture items to furnish the upstairs rooms at Avery House. 8. 16 Docents are undergoing training. Some who are new at the training are beginning to give tours. Poudre R1 4th graders' unit on Colo. History is approaching and the Museum and Docents are gearing up for a heavy schedule of Spring Museum tours for the students. V Entertainment Tax Question Update: City Council has rejected the Budget Office's 25C movie -ticket tax proposal and has instructed that office to prepare a tax proposal based upon a percentage. That proposal will be in the form of a "straw" ordinance and will be discussed at a Council public hearing on March 20. When the Budget Office prepares that "straw" ordinance, the CRB will discuss it at a work session, prior to the public hearing. VI Akin Building Ms. Echevarria reported that she had received no reply as of Feb. 14, the deadline she gave the owner to reply to the letter concerning rescinding the local historic designation of their property at 128-132 La Porte Avenue. The Board instructed Ms. Echevarria to send the letter again, this time certified, return receipt requested. VII ,John Dewhirst reported that the Landmarks Preservation Commission would like a joint meeting with the CRB: The Board agreed and suggested that the April regular CRB meeting would be appropriate (Wednesday, April 25, 4:45 p.m.) unless the Commission would prefer another time.
