The following members were present: Fran Johnson, Ayleen Burns, Anna Otto, Ann Wilmsen Joan Day, Jennifer Beccard and Loren Hooper Board Members Absent: None Staff Members Present: David Siever, Lincoln Center Jill Stilwell, Fort Collins Museum Evan Hyatt, Lincoln Center Guests: Rosann Winn, Convention & Visitors Bureau E owl III AGENDA Call to order - (4:01 p.m.) Fran Johnson Consideration of agenda - No changes. Consideration of Minutes of November 30, 2001 - Motion to accept minutes as written - Joan Day Second - Loren Hooper Passed unanimously DISCUSSION ITEMS IV. Review of Fort Fund Process - The newest members of the Board (Anna Otto and Ann Wilmsen) were introduced and each gave a brief description of their background and interests. The others members of the Board welcomed Anna and Ann and thanked them for their volunteer commitment to the Board. At this time the Board reviewed the Fort Fund presentation and grant recommendation process. Board members were also made aware of the amount of funding available for grants in the year 2001. V. Fort Fund Presentations - From 4:30 p.m. to 8:40 p.m., the Board heard presentations from organizations applying for support from Fort Fund. VI. Performing Arts Center Update - City Staff and a committee of representatives from local arts organizations is continuing to meet with representatives from Colorado State University to determine the: feasibility of a joint CSU/Community facility. The goal of these meetings is to gather information that can be given to consultant who will then provide guidance on what a possible facility would require in order to meet the needs of all groups involved. A grant of $60,000 has been secured from the Wilkins Trust to pay the fees of the Halsey North Group. The Halsey North Group will be the consultant on fundraising efforts for the new Performing Arts Center. VIi. Changes requested from previously funded Fort Fund events - The Board discussed changes to three events previously funded by Fort Fund: BikeToberfest - National MS Society Joan Day moved that the funding for this event remain in place with no changes. Ayleen Burns seconded the motion. Passed 3 - 2 (Loren Hooper & Fran Johnson dissented) 2 abstentions Hispanic Latino Leadership Institute - Larimer Center for Mental•Health Joan Day moved that the funding for this event remain in place with no changes. Loren Hooper seconded the motion. Passed unanimously. University/Community Collaboratives for Community Devel*ent - Colorado State Unive0ity Jennifer Beccard moved that the funding for this event be returned to Fort Fund due to the significant changes to the event from what was originally proposed. Joan Day seconded the motion. Passed unanimously. Staff will send a letter to CSU requesting that the $500 granted for this event be returned to Fort Fund. VIII. Meeting times for future Board meetings - The Board's next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. At that meeting the Board will discuss dates and times for future Board meetings. IX. Review of any Past Fort Fund Events - The Board will review final reports from organizations/events that were funded by Fort Fund at their regular meeting in February. X. Committee Reports - No reports were given. XI. Other Business - None. XII. Fort Fund Funding Recommendations - Based on the presentations heard earlier in the meeting, the Board made funding recommendations for Tier #2 and #3 applicants to Fort Fund. (see attached funding recommendations) Board members were also assigned to act as liaisons for funded events. Loren Hooper moved adoption of the funding recommendations. Joan Day seconded the motion. Passed unanimously. XIII. Adjournment (10:20 p.m.) Respectfully submitted, Eva Hyatt Public Relations Coordinator Lincoln Center City of Fort Collins ADMINISTRATION: and Recreational CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD LINCOLN CENTER REPORT JANUARY 22, 2001 A new lighting system has been installed in the Canyon West room. New lighting instruments were hung from the grid giving more coverage and brighter lighting. In connection with this a new control panel was also installed. Three major concerts this month benefited students from the Poudre School District. The Elementary Honor Choir concert on February 8"' included the honor choirs from all of the elementary schools. The concert was sold out. All State Choir on February 6' involved high school choirs from throughout the state. The evening concert was sold out and a dress rehearsal in the aftemoon was attended by 530 parents and friends. The Fort Collins Symphony sponsored four concerts on February 9t" for 4' and 6" grade students from the Poudre School District and from private schools throughout the Fort Collins area. As part of the Travelogue series a film on the Galapagos Islands was scheduled for January 30'h. We experienced a cancellation of the afternoon showing of the film du the fact that the presenter failed to show up by the time the show was scheduled. We seated the audience and then the presenter called and informed us that he had "forgot" about the afternoon showing. We asked those who could to attend the evening showing and refunds are being mailed to those who were unable to attend the evening show. ART IN PUBLIC PLACES: The Fort Collins City Council has approved the artwork for Cottonwood Glen Park by artist, Christopher Weed. The oversized steel sculptures entitled "Watermelon Slices" will be installed in the part this summer. The Art in Public Places program currently is advertising an open competition for a City Hall Water Feature Project. Submissions are due in March. VISUAL ARTS: March is Youth Art Month at the Lincoln Center. The work of students of all grade levels from over forty schools in the district will be on display in the Poudre School District Student Art Exhibition March 6 — April 5. This exhibit will feature two and three dimensional work of all shapes, sizes and media. Discovering Art in Public Places gives it's viewers a glimpse into the evolution of a City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Project. The exhibit will illustrate a variety of the city's current and completed projects. Discovering Art in Public Places will be on display March 2 — April 5 in the Lobby Gallery. 417 West Magnolia • Fort Collins, CO 80521-2646 • (970) 221-6735 • FAX (970) 484-0424 and Recreational Fort Collins Museum City of Fort Collins FORT COLLINS MUSEUM REPORT CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD February 22, 2001 PROGRAMS On March 20, the Museum will host a Shoe Art Workshop for kids in conjunction with the Heart & Sole exhibition. A $5 materials fee will be charged to attendees who will create their own artwork out of shoes. The Museum is partnering with Poudre School district to create a series of television shows on Fort Collins History. Treloar Tredennick, Curator of Education and Pam Uhls, Poudre School District Curriculum Specialist, are co -hosting the programs that focus on agriculture, Germans from Russia, Hispanics, and women in agriculture. The programs will air on PSD's Cable 10 station. STAFF Treloar Tredennick, Curator of Education, was invited to serve as the Program Chair for the 2002 Colorado -Wyoming Association of Museum's Annual conference. Beth Higgins was recently re -appointed the President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Museum Store Association. MUSEUM ADVISORY COUNCIL The Museum Advisory Council participated in its first all -day planning retreat on February 9th. The goal of the retreat was to look at the MAC's role and determine its direction for the next year. COURTYARD The Parks Dept. has begun demolition work in the Courtyard to make way for the Janis cabin move and new landscaping. The Janis cabin move is set for mid — late February, depending on the weather. The cabin will be relocated between the Auntie Stone and Franz -Smith cabins. Staff has been working closely with the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado. The ALCC assisted in doing "take -offs" of the landscape design and identifying potential vendors who might be willing to make product donations. The ALCC will also be providing much of the labor to implement the new landscape plan. The project will begin once the ground thaws. CURRENT EXHIBITS • Heart and Sole: A History of the Shoe, August 10, 2000 - April 15, 2001. • The Frank Miller StageCoach was relocated to the East Gallery in mid January. This move opened up the entry area of the Museum and will make way for an orientation area for the upcoming exhibit, Dig It! The People and Archaeology of the Lindenmeier Site, opening April 5`f'. • Staff continues to disassemble and remove the old casework on the first floor. The casework is hazardous to the collection as it provides a home for carpet beetles. • Electricians began installing the wiring for a new track light system on the entire first floor of the Museum The track lighting will be installed in late February/early March. 200 Mathews Street • Fort Collins, CO 80524 • (970) 221-6738 • January 24, 2001 Dave Siever Resolution 01- Adopting the Recommendation of the Cultural Resources Board Regarding Fort Fund Disbursements. Staff recommends adoption of the Resolution. On November 30, 1998 revised guidelines for the Cultural Development & Programming and Tourism accuuat:, (Fort Fund) were adopted and approved through the City Manager's office. These newly adopted guidelines crcai"I a three -tiered funding system for organizations that apply for grants from Fort Fund. Tier #1 was establisliccl annual programming fund for organizations whose primary purpose is to present three or more public r,vnu annually. These groups may apply for funding from Tier #1 each April. Tier #2 allows organizations that :11 L nh,i eligible for Tier #1 support to apply for funding of events that are not fund-raising in nature and do not u, 1"[ ,. more than $2,500 in proceeds after expenses. Tier #3 allows organizations that are not eligible for Tier i i ,uI il),,; I to apply for funding of events that generate more than $2,500 in proceeds after expenses and are fund-r.i isi; i in nature. Applications for support from Tier #2 and Tier #3 are accepted each January and June.
