Following the meeting, at 4:30 p.m., the Board held a Fort Fund Grant Session. The following members were present: Fran Johnson, Ayleen Burns, Anna Otto, Ann Wilmsen, Jennifer Sterling Beccard, Joan Day, and Loren Hooper Board Members Absent: None Staff Members Present: David Siever, Lincoln Center Libby Colbert, Lincoln Center Evan Hyatt, Lincoln Center Mike Powers, CLRS Guests: AGENDA I. Call to order - (4:04 p.m.) Fran Johnson II. Consideration of agenda — no changes III. Consideration of Minutes of May 31, 2001 Fran Johnson asked staff to make a date correction to the minutes of May 31, 2001. Review of April Fort Fund Process - The Board reviewed Fort Fund process and guidelines. The Board raised the issue of funding special programs, such as the Discovery Center, and organizations who share non-profit status. It was decided that the Board would discuss this at the July meeting when they consider OpenStage Theatre & Co. and openstage, etc. future funding. V. Performing Art Center update - Mike Powers reported that 5375 signatures were collected on the petition for the new performing arts center, new library and expanded museum. 3112 valid signatures are needed for the issue to be added to the November 2001 ballot. So far, signatures have a 26% rejection rate, so based on that data, it is projected that there will be 4300 valid signatures. Fran Johnson drafted a letter to City council on behalf of the Board that expressed concerns of the transportation tax issue proposed for the November ballot. On July 17, council will be presented a packet of information about this issue for consideration on the November ballot. The Board reviewed and made suggestions regarding the letter and agreed that it should bear signatures of every board member. VI. Review of Past Fort Fund Events - The Board reviewed final reports from the following organizations/events: Colorado State University Asian/Pacific American Student Services - Asian Fest 2001 Dance Connection - New Visions Dance Festival Dance Express - Fantastic Flight of Lights High Performance Dance Theatre - Scared Stiff Part IV, Jungle Toes, and Joumey Northern Colorado Artist Association - 10`" National Art Exhibition$,Sale Volunteers of America - "I Remember Mama" VB. Committee Reports Arts Alive — The organization is currently looking for a development director. The Board discussed the importance of having a representative from the Northern Colorado region appointed to the Colorado Council on the Arts (CCA) Board. The CRB Board agreed that they would brainstorm names for this appointment at their July meeting. Art In Public Places - Design Consultant Carolyn Braaksma presented schematic designs for the Taft Hill Road Improvement project. It included concrete treatments for the wing and retaining walls of the underpass at Spring Creek trail and Taft Hill Road near Drake Road. Andrew Dufford presented an artwork proposal for the top of the historic train depot building (soon to be the Transit Center). It included metal kinetic pieces with the theme of transportation to be placed on top of the bus shelter columns. He also gave a short update on Fossil Creek community park which will be a theme park based on fossils and other pre -historic themes. Convention and Visitor's Bureau - no report Lincoln Center - Seport • VIII. Fort Fund Presentation - From 4:45 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. the Board heard presentations from organizations applying for support from Tier #2 and Tier #3 (Special Event and Fundraising) of Fort Fund. (see attached recommendations) Joan Day moved for adoption of the funding recommendations. Loren Hooper seconded the motion. Passed unanimously. XI. Other Business - None. XII. "Squonk" has been scheduled as a replacement: "Squonk is a heady delight! Squonk evokes dazzling variety of myths and moods. The music is a rich brew of Irish techno-folk, Indian melodies, Philip Glass, heavy metal and industrial noise. Squonk is a breathless journey through an ever - changing emotional landscape, from humor to horror to ravishing beauty. There may be cheaper ways to blow your mind, but almost all of them are bad for you!" -Fintan O'Toole, NY Daily News "Squonk" has been scheduled for Saturday October 13`h and John Pinette (originally scheduled for October 12`h on the same series) has been moved to Saturday November 3`a The design committee for the Lincoln Center will begin the process to pick fabric for replacement of seats in the Mini -Theatre. Facilities dept will coordinate the installation which will take place during the Christmas/New Year's holiday break. VISUAL ARTS: Celebrating it's twentieth year, the Crossroads "Fabric of Legacies" quilt show continues on display in the Lincoln Center's Lobby and Intimate galleries July 14 through July 28. In conjunction with the "Fabric of Legacies" exhibit, the quilts of award -winning Maine fiber artist Dianne S.
