The following members were present: Joan Day, Loren Hooper, Fran Johnson, Anna Otto, Jennifer Sterling Beccard , Ann Wilmsen Board Members Absent: Ayleen Burns Staff Members Present: David Siever, Lincoln Center Libby Colbert, Lincoln Center Cheryl Donaldson, Museum Guests: None AGENDA I. Call to order - (12:07 p.m.) Fran Johnson II. Consideration of agenda — Fran Johnson reported that staff asked to remove Agenda Item # I because they received official notice of Whitebird Productions' non-profit status; therefore, the Board need not discuss the issue. III. Consideration of Minutes of August 30, 2001 Motion to accept minutes —Joan Day Second — Anna Otto Passed unanimously VIII. Review of Past Fort Fund Events — Anna Otto — Sustainable Living Fair — Village Earth Joan Day — Homecoming Parade — CSLI Anna Otto — International Poster Show The Board reviewed final reports from the following organizations/events: Wingshadow Horsetcoth Marathon Swim — Wingshadow, Inc. Fabric of Legacies —Crossroads Safehouse, Inc. Fort Collins Wind Symphony Classical Arts on the Prairies Series — Environmental Learning Center Nutcracker/2001 Dance Season — Canyon Concert Ballet IX. Committee Reports - Arcs Alive — Dave Siever reported that Arts Alive is still discussing options for funding the organization. The Board discussed the futures of the Aggie Theatre and the MOCA building. Art In Public Places — no report. Ann Wilmsen reported that she has not been receiving an agenda to alert her of the meetings. Libby Colbert will ask APP staff to send her future agendas. Lincoln Center —no report. Convention and Visitor's Bureau — Libby Colbert reported that the CVB marketing meeting to be held at the Lincoln Center has changed dates from Octoberlst to October 15`". X. Other Business — Dave Siever reported on the upcoming deadline for the Boards and Commissions applications. Joan Day's term will be ending and she will not be re -applying to the Board. Ann Wilmsen's term will also end, and she will re -apply for appointment. XIII. Adjournment (1:55 p.m.) Respectfully submitted, Libby Colbert Public Relations Coordinator Cultural, Library and Recreational Services Lincoln Center City of Fort Collins CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD LINCOLN CENTER REPORT OCTOBER 25, 2001 ADMINISTRATION: Final figures for season ticket sales: 2001-2002 Showstopper Series 4,805 Dance Series 575 Classical Series 214 Anything Goes 381 Film Series 771 Superseries for Kids NA 2000-2001 4843 657 235 455 906 3901 Matinee season tickets for the Showstopper Series jumped from 340 to 533. For the EmmyLou Harris show 1,016 patrons attended the matinee performance. VISUAL ARTS: Art -in Public Places: Mosiac work has been completed on the Water Cycle Wall Project. This is the first phase of the project. Next summer the artist will install the bronze and ceramic tiles representing the animal and plant cycles. The images are inspired by drawings from Poudre School District students. The State is freezing funding to many of their capitol projects, which means our joint project at the CSU Trial Gardens is on hold and might possibly be cancelled. City of Fort Collins Cultural, Library and Recreational Services Fort Collins Museum CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD MUSEUM REPORT OCTOBER 25, 2001 • The Antique Harvest was held on Saturday September 15"'. Eight experts appraised over 300 objects ranging from paintings to jewelry. The cold weather and the Nation's recent events affected attendance, but the Museum still made more than $800.00 • The Museum hosted the first annual Rendezvous which is a collaborative venture between the Museum and Poudre School District. The event was held at the Museum on Monday October I"; over 1300 4th graders attended. • Auntie Stone's 200t' Birthday party was held at the Museum on Friday September 2151 at 4:00p.m. • The Museum's 1937 Diamond T Fire Truck participated in the CSU homecoming parade on September 22"d September Exhibits: Dig It! The People and Archaeology of the Lindenmeier Site, April 5th, 2001 through February 24, 2002; Off Beat and On the Wall: Unique and unusual selections from the collection, September 7"' through December 31, 2001 200 Mathews Street • Fort Collins, CO 80524 • (970) 221-6738 City of Fort Collins Cultural, Library and Recreational Services Lincoln Center CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD ANNUAL REPORT - 2000 BACKGROUND: The Cultural Resources Board consists of seven members. For the first six months of 2000, regular meetings were held on the fourth Thursday of each month from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Center. For the remainder of the year, meetings were held on last Thursday of each month from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Center. The Board receives monthly staff reports and acts in an advisory capacity to City Council for the Cultural Services and Facilities Department that includes Lincoln Center, the Fort Collins Museum and other responsibilities as needed. The Board reviews and advises staff on the following: Annual Budget, Facilities improvement and Programming (Exhibits, Shows, Outreach) and other issues as they arise. The Board continues to gather community input on cultural issues and represent the ideas expressed. Members who served in 2000 were Jennifer Sterling Beccard, Fran Johnson, Joan Day, Bruce Hendee, Loren Hooper, Corinne Govan and Ayleen Burns. Corinne Govan served as Chairperson. Fran Johnson served as Vice -Chairperson. Council liaison: Karen Weitkunat. Staff Liaisons were Mike Powers, David Siever, Jill Stilwell and Evan Hyatt. Liaisons from the Convention & Visitors Bureau were Rita Greene and Rich Harter. YEARLY HIGHLIGHTS - 2000 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROCESS - NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTER The Board continued to consult with staff concerning the recommendation of a site for a new performing arts center in the downtown area. The Board was also involved with discussions regarding the number and type(s) of facilities needed. FORT COLLINS MUSEUM The Board consulted with staff on the expansion of the Fort Collins Museum's Heritage Courtyard and began working with staff towards recommendations for future growth of the Museum facilities. The Board and the Museum Advisory Council held a joint meeting to discuss finhue plans for the Fort Collins Museum. The resulting document will be valuable in future planning. In striving to raise City Council members' awareness of the cultural assets of the city, the Board invited City Council members as special honored guests to the Museum's Upper Boxelder Schoolhouse Summer Program. Councilmen Kurt Kastein, Scott Mason, and Mayor Ray Martinez attended recitals in August and presented certificates to the school children. FORT FUND: The Board monitored the impact of the three -tiered funding system that was instituted in 1998 and made changes as needed. The Board recommended funding in the amount of $52,187 to 42 organizations in January, $83,750 to 15 organizations in April, and $38,100 to 22 organizations in June. City Council approved all funding recommendations. The Board will continue to monitor the Fort Fund process and make changes as needed. ARTS ALIVE FORT COLLINS After assisting with the establishment of a Board for Arts Alive Fort Collins and the hiring of an Executive Director in 1999, the Board continued to assist the organization in the areas of public awareness and fund-raising. The Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board envisions a community where art, music, performances and the stories of its people enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors. MISSION: The mission of the Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board is to advise City Council on cultural issues for the greater good of the Fort Collins connnunrity. Cultural resources are defined as the arts and history, which stimulate community potential and pride. STRATEGIES TO FULFILL VISION AND MISSION CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT & PROGRAMMING and TOURISM ACCOUNTS - (FORT FUND) Continue to administer Fort Fund Funding Session - January Funding Session - April Funding Session - June Continue to work in conjunction with the Convention and Visitors Bureau when making recommendations for funding from the Tourism Account. Re-examine Fort Fund guidelines & process and make changes if necessary. FACILITIES Continue to make recommendations and support the new Performing Arts Center in the following areas: Development Design Community Outreach Fund-raising Tax Initiative Other areas as needed Develop/Explore possibilities of expansion and improvement of the Fort Coltins Museum. Cultural Resources Board Work Plan - 2001 Page 2 COMMUNITY CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT Participate in projects, which may affect the cultural community: Arts Alive Fort Collins Public/private funding for City cultural projects. Designated revenue sources to support the operation of the city's non-profit arts, science, historical and cultural organizations (such as a Scientific and Cultural Funding District, a seat tax, an increase in the City lodging tax, etc...) Raise the awareness of City Council members and the community as a whole of the value of the cultural assets of the city. Continue to monitor and support the Art In Public Places Program as needed. FORT COLLINS MUSEUM/ LINCOLN CENTER The Board will continue to advise City Council on specific issues regarding the Museum and Lincoln Center. Assist the Museum staff with the implementation of the National Endowment for the Humanities exhibit plan. Assist Museum Advisory Council with promotion of Museum as a cultural asset of the city. Assist staff with the development of new/expanded facilities for the Museum.
