October 14, 1998 Page 2 control, security, auditions vs. tapes, venue, revenue collection or not, length of performance, time of year to schedule, festival vs. concert. Board members thought an event such as this might be a good opportunity to hand out a questionnaire to attendees that would give the Board guidance on issues and concerns. It would probably also be a good opportunity to distribute a calendar of teen happenings. The Board decided to meet as a Battle of the Bands committee to further discuss this idea on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Youth Activity Center. Board members are welcome to bring others who may be interested in the discussion. The committee will report to the Board at the regular meeting on November 4. It was noted that the BASH committee is still functioning, and an event is planned for late October at the cornfield maze east of town. SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS Board members selected the schools they will visit to determine issues and concerns of the students there. Board members will then report orally at the regular meeting on December 2. Councilmember Smith has requested that peer counselors contact him and attend the forum. The National League of Cities has its annual meeting in December in Kansas City. Councilmember Smith is a representative and has been requested to bring a young person (age 15-18) for the "youth track" of the conference.
