HomeMy WebLinkAboutWomens Commission - Minutes - 08/20/1990COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN Minutes August 20, 1990 Check -In Presentation Carol Plock and Katie Cohnen from the Women's Center made a presentation describing the goals and programs of the Center and also made suggestions about what the Commission could do to help (see sheet). Minutes Approved as printed, except in item listing absent, Councilman Horak's policy is to physically attend only when invited. Follow -Up Plaque to Ginny ordered. Text for engraving was approved. Letter to Jacque and Alma expressing appreciation for participation in workshop approved. Chair Report A. September meeting: Dress casual, meeting to start at 7:00 pm at Duffy's. Address and map in next packet. B. Council Policy Agenda: Input from Gerry on what issues the Commission should be considering. Committee A. Outreach Committee will have meeting Reports re Senior Center and report in September. B. Legal/Government Committee has been working on Women/S/Pace column, the Boards and Commissions Workshop, & the Court Watch Project. They are reviewing the Fort Collins Affirma- tive Action plan. Since the President's Coordinating Council is not functioning, they recommend inviting more organizations to come to Commission meetings with presentations. C. Basic Needs Committee presented a letter to Dr. Link, VP/Provost & Academic Vice President expressing concerns about conducting classes Plaque ready for presentation at 9/90 meeting. Gerry Horak expressed interest in a project toward involving community agencies in employing community youth. J. Enck will be working with Patty Olson on a budget/proposal to the Council. The Commission approved the project. A. The issue of the Conflict of Interest policy was discussed. Gerry addressed this and said that it does not neces- sarily involve business but other issues. He needs more specific infor- mation about the situation discussed in earlier Commission meetings. B. Gerry Horak discussed his philosophy of the purpose of the Commission. Taking a look at how the City encourages jobs, etc. is appropiate for Commission. Consider asking Frank Bruno to come and answer questions - would be beneficial. Consideration of the recreational user fees was good. Community wide review of human services goes under review 8/30, so should perhaps be involved in that. Lots of good stuff in this one, but some of the information was very discouraging. No information. Ann call Gerry w/specifics.
