HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 04/19/1966MINUTM, OF M EETIDNO April 19, 1966 The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held in the City C'Mncil chambers on April 19, 1966, at 7:30 p.m. The chairman, Mr. C. W. Peterson, presided. Air. it. R. Phillips introduced Mr. Schmol, a representative of the Christian Education Committee of the Fort Collins Council of ChurchYs. Mr. Schmel rsqueated that the Board roneidsr not havinZ, recreation program activities for children during the tcro peeks i:viediate]y following the close of the public schools in order that there be no competing activities with the vacation Bible schools hold by the different churches. After some dis- cuasion, the Board decided to postpone any decision for a year, during which tins the Christian Fducaticn Committee will make a sin-vey as to the number of children involved and the extent of any time overlap and will then report back to the Board. Gene Allen introduced representatives of the Planning and Zoning Board. l;L then explained the choice of the golf cmirae site which is currently under option by the City Council. Of the 28 sites: originally ccnsidered, five were studied irtensi*-rely and the one chosen was considered the most feasible from all standpoints. The decision to build a golf course and the exam -of the site are part of a 10 yoar plan of development of parks and recreation facilities for the city. Dr. Thomas Bennett, representative from the City Council, expressed appreci- ation to the members of the comnitteo for their efforts in the cite selection. A citation which is to be presented to the Fort Collins United Fund from the Colorado Parks and Recreation Society was read. Air. Phillips and Mir. Dave Byers reported on the surfer programo Mr. Phillips reported that correspondence with the concessionaire of the swimming pool indicates that lie will be willing to sell tickets at the swimming pool for both admission and basket rental. A1r. Phillips also announced the state convention to be held on the CSU campus April 27-29. The meeting was adjourned. Present: Yr. C. 'e4 Peterson Mrs.Belle Stewart Bra.
