The regular meeting of the Fort Collins Parks
and Recreation
Department
Advisory Board was called
to order at 7:30 p.m. by Vice, -Chairman
Thurman F. McGraw.
The minutes of the November, 1966, meeting were approved.
Mr. H. R. Phillips reported that Mr. Hank Chavez has been hired as the
outside security guard at Club Tice. This appointment is on a probationary
status. Mr. Robert Dunn moved that the Board ratify this appointment.
Mr. J. R. French seconded the motion, and it was carried. ,
It was reported that Mr. Frank Hummel of Greeley has been hired as the
architect for the new city golf course. The committee on golf will work
out the details of the contract.
Club Tico was to have been redecorated during the Christmas holidays, but
this work has been postponed until spring.
Th--rs was some discussion about theft insurance on property stored in
school buildings. Mr. Phillips was authorized to inquire into the
proper procedure regarding this matter.
Mr. T. W. Bennett asked for information about lights on the north
diamond at City Park. Since City Park is the center for baseball activity
in the sucrer and since other fields in other parts of the city are not yet
ready for liGlits, the lighting of the north diamond is necessary at this
time. Lighting for other fields will be considered in the future as the
demand arises.
In reporting on current recreational activities, Mr. Phillips reported
321 participants in the skiing program and 127 basketball teams. A new
church league consisting of six teams has been started in basketball.
There are over a•thousand individuals participating in the basketball
program. Mr. Phillips also announced that multi -purpose rooms.and gyms
in public schools will be open for free play on Saturday afternoons.
Bids are being obtained for a sprinkler system at Spring Creek Park.
Mr. Kent Anderson will design this system. The south ball diamond at
City Park will also have a sprinkler system. A sum of $15,000 has been
granted from the Game and Fish Department for development of Spring Creek
Park.
Doard members were asked to think about preparing a long-range plan for
park planning which might be accomplished at two-year intervals. This
plan should include improvement of parks, adding and obtaining land for new
parks, construction of the golf course and a swimming pool,; and any other
needed facilities. Mr. Dunn pointed out the importance of looking for new
areas where land may be obtained for new parka.
