HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks And Recreation Board - Minutes - 10/23/1968FORT (Q&S PARKS AND RECREATION ADYISWARD Minutes of Meeting October 23, 1968 The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Collins"Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held on October 23 instead of the regular meeting time so the Board could meet with the Tice Board at Club Tico. The meeeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. by the chairman, Mr. C. W. Peterson. The Director of Club Tico, Mrs. Virginia Hoff, introduced Club Tico Board members, and she explained the method of selection of Board members. Attendance at Club Tico has not been as great this fall as in other years, with an average attendance of 150. The Club is open only on Friday nights, and out-of-town bands have been hired for moot of these nights because attendance is greater, usually, than when local bands play. Activities and problems were discussed. It was felt that more police protection, particularly when Club Tico dances end, would be desirable. Board members expressed satisfaction with remodeling and with the activities. Several minor maintenance problems were referred to Mr. H. R. Phillips for correction. The Tico Board was assured of support from the Advisory Board. After the Tico Board members were excused, the minutes of the September meeting of the Advisory Board were approved. Discussion about ways iu which Club Tico might be improved included a suggestion that an open house for parents be held, that the Club be open more often on a drop -in basis, and that a survey of opinions of students son - corning Club Tico be made. No definite action was taken at this time. The Club Tico financial report was accepted. A report and request from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bacon, sponsors of the United Nations organisation in the public schools, was read. The request was made that a certain section of a park be designated as a United Nations "grow" and that U.N. members plant a tree each year and have some kind of symbol of U.N. erected. Mr. Jerry Kissock moved that the report be acknowledged and that the suggestion for a "grow" not be accepted. Mr. Robert Dunn seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr. Phillips reported that the budget for next year is available. Several capital improvements will be mede in the parks and first stages of development of Edora Park will be made. The availability of continued use of the land for Buckingham Park was discussed and will be investigated. Mr. Larry James reported that the gymnastics program proposed by Mr. and Mrs.Pete Monogriff will be in operation on Saturdays from 9 to 12 a.m. and one night during the week from 6;30 to 8:30 p.m. There have also been request for physical fitness programs for adults and for offering instruction in Hula dancing. There was some discussion of problems relating to the Knothold program. Mr. Kissock reported that the City Council accepted the recommendation of the Advisory Board on the Youth Baseball program. He also requested definite estimates on the cost of an Indoor swimming pool. Mr.*Klesock reported, too, that the City Council approved pro- viding uniforms for permanent park laborers.
