V. Staff Reports - Written (see attached) Fort Collins Museum - Joy Poole Lincoln Center - David Siever Joy Poole asked that all Board members be present to host a community reception for scholars and consultants from the National Endowment for the Humanities Thursday, Sept. 28th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Museum. The Board agreed and decided to hold their regular monthly meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28th prior to the reception. Joy Poole invited the Board members to visit the Trolley Car Barn which was recently renovated to be used as storage for a portion of the Museum's permanent collections. The Board will make that visit following their regular Oct. meeting. Joint City/CSU Architectural Study Update - David Siever updated the Board on the progress of the feasibility study on a combined facility. The architectural firm of Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates has been chosen to conduct the study. A letter of agreement to complete the study has been received from Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates. Ron Baker, from the CSU Facilities Department, is drafting a contract to be signed by the City, Colorado State University, and Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates. The study is scheduled to be competed by the end of 1995. VI. Review of Fort Fund process Karen Warren asked for a review of the entire Fort Fund process for the new CRB members to be held prior to the next Fort Fund funding session on Jan. 24, 1996. A letter of proposal Fort Collins Area Arts Council regarding the postponement of funding for from Fort Fund. was received from both the and the One West Art Center events that each had received Fort Collins Area Arts Council "Celebration of the Arts" - Oct. 7, 1995 The Fort Collins Area Arts Council received $2,000 from Fort Fund to help sponsor an event entitled "Celebration of the Arts" on Oct. 7, 1995. The Arts Council is asking for the Board's approval to postpone the event until January 21, 1996. Robin Goette moved to postpone consideration of the Arts Council's request until the Sept. meeting so that the Board could request further information on what changes the Arts Council is proposing for the event. Fran Johnson second. Passed unanimously. One West Art Center "Day of the Painter" - Aug. 19 & 20, 1995 The One West Art Center received $1,000 from Fort Fund to help sponsor an event entitled "Day of the Painter" on Aug. 19 & 20, 1995. One West Art Center is asking for the Board's approval to postpone the event until May 11, 1996. Robin Goette moved that One West Art Center be asked to return the funding and re -apply for the Jan. 24, 1996 funding session. Fran Johnson second. After a brief discussion the motion was opposed unanimously. Marcella Wells moved that the Board approve the postponement of the event until May 11, 1996 with the stipulation that the $1,000 granted to the One West Art Center be applied to their $5,000 yearly limit in 1996. Jennifer Beccard second. Passed unanimously. The following changes will be made to the Fort Fund Guidelines and Application Forms. The date of the City Council's most recent approval of the Guidelines will be placed on the cover. Statements within the guidelines regarding the forms on which proposals must be submitted, will be emphasized more. A letter, and the most current version of the Fort Fund Guidelines and Application Forms, will be sent to all past Fort Fund grantees by Sept. 1, 1995. This will make past grant recipients aware of the most current version of the Fort Fund Guidelines and Application Forms and provide them with a copy. VII. Re -assignment of Committee Liaisons The following assignments were made for liaisons to the Boards listed below. LC Board - Jennifer Beccard Robin Goette (alternate) Museum - Deborah Romero and Marcella Wells Convention - Robin Goette and Visitors Marcella Wells (alternate) Bureau Fort Collins - No appointment made. To Area Arts be made at Sept. meeting. Council Art In Public - Fran Johnson Places Board Karen Warren (alternate) City/CSU - Karen Warren Feasibility Study IX. Committee Reports - LC Board - Does not meet in the summer. Museum - Deborah Romero updated the Board on the visit by scholars and consultants from the National Endowment for the Humanities that will take place Sept. 27 & 28, 1995. CVB - No report. Fort Collins Area Arts Council - The FCAAC received a grant from the Community Foundation to aid in an awareness campaign for the arts. That grant will help to underwrite the cost of posters, newspaper ads, billboards, table tents, etc... X. Other Business - Karen Warren announced that a video on Robert's Rules of Order is available for Board members to view. It can be checked out through the City Manager's Office. Ms. Warren will write a letter to Mayor Ann Azari asking her to hold a session for Board members on Robert's Rules of Order. XI. Adjournment Moved Second Passed Respectfully submitted, Evan Hya (7:18 p.m.) Robin Goette - Marcella Wells unanimously i CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD LINCOLN CENTER REPORT AUGUST 23, 1995 FACILITIES: The Facilities Dept will be painting the performance hall during the last week of August and the first two weeks of September. The design committee met and picked out colors which will enhance the new curtain purchased with money from the Birthday Ball. The new curtain is "eggplant" color, and will be installed before the end of September. Staff is looking into ways to spruce up the catering entrance door by Canyon West. An awning and fencing around the dumpsters will be part of the upgrade. The Mini -Theatre dimming system has been upgraded during the month of August. A new control system was installed along with retrofitting the dimmers. VISUAL ARTS: The 9th Colorado International Invitational Poster exhibition will open here at the Lincoln Center Thursday, Sept 14th with a reception from 5 to 7 PM for the honor laureate: Art Chantry, Poudre R-1 High School students, and CIIPE directors. The main show opens at Colorado State University on Friday September 15th. There are satellite exhibitions at One West, Fort Collins Museum, Loveland Museum and UNC Art Gallery, and the Denver Art Museum. The Art Wear show is September 8th at the Lincoln Center. Tickets are $15 for general seating and $25 for patron seating (first two rows). CONFERENCE: David Siever and Mark Breimhorst will be attending the Western Arts Alliance Conference in Albuquerque the first week of September. This is the first booking conference for booking shows for the 1996-97 season. Cultural&brary and Recreational Services Fort Collins Museum FT. COLLINS MUSEUM REPORT CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD AUGUST 23, 1995 EXHIBITS Nature Photography is a visually exciting photography show that is circulated from the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. The photographs were printed by Fine Print here in Fort Collins. It will be on display through September 30th. PROGRAMS Michael Madrid will be present "Nature Photography: But is it Natural?" on September 20th at. 1:30 p.m. Library Park was once again the site of NEW WEST FEST. The museum supplied electricity and space for the various participants. In addition, the museum assisted the Fort Collins Historical Society in distributing birthday cake to visitors to celebrate the 131st birthday of the founding of the military fort. The NEH scholars and consultants will be arriving September 27th The Cultural Resources Board can host a community reception in the Museum courtyard on September Z8thfrom 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Subway will donate a party sub for the event. COLLECTIONS The collections committee will be meeting September I Ith to review the 1995 donations. DEVELOPMENT The response from the direct mail appeal for the Diamond T firetruck and Special exhibits and programs has resulted in an average gift of $24.00. 2065 promotional pieces were mailed. 57 people responded, which equates to a 3% rate of return. Firetruck contributions amount to $835.00 while Special exhibits and programs amount to $530.00 for a total of $1,365.00. SHOP Karla Huttenmeyer is the new Museum Assistant at the museum. Her responsibilities include the Museum Shop and processing the accounts payable for the museum. Karla is graduate of both Fort Collins High School (1986) and CSU (1993). The net profit for the Museum Shop from the first six months of 1995 is $2,873.00 It appears the amount per museum, visitor is spending is up. Upcoming Exhibit for the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition beginning'October 3, 1995 will be To Arms: Posters from World War II.
