Retreat

6:00-9:00 Group activities facilitated by Jody.
After several group activities the Commission members addressed the question of the
work to be done now that the 10 year update Study is almost complete. Following is a
description of this brainstorm process.
1) Look at Teen pregnancy and drug use in Junior Highs and High Schools. Develop
after school sessions and things for teens to be involved in.
2) Assess what other community organizations may want to work with the Commission.
3) Highlight several areas from the report to focus on. Include these in the work plan
for 1999-2000.
4) Other issues to consider, day care and housing.
5) Have commission members liaison with community groups on particular issues,
investigate rather than develop and reinvent.
6) Invite Will Smith to come talk to us on youth issues.
7) Look at development of a mentoring program with women and girls.
8) Schedule a meeting and invite people from the community and various organizations
who are working on the issues the commission wants to highlight.
9) Look at ways to promote and support more women in public policy making positions.
