HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 03/08/1978r • • 0 =," MINUTES COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS March 8, 1978 The regular meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was held on Wednesday, March 8, 1978 in the City Council Chambers at 2:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order at 205 P.M. by Chairman Ed Chilcott. Members Presents Ed Chilcott, Chairman Lois Chung, Secretary Ann Azari Mabel Kenney Esther Stratton Darryl Farrington Eleanor Hoag Louie LaRoche Members Absent: Chet Hommon 04uests: Nancy Wykstra - Choice Care Representative John McGraw - Human Resources Jan Johnson - Crisis Center The minutes of the February 8, 1978 meeting were approved as amended. The phrase "person to person" should be added to the third paragraph beginning with "Ed Chilcott reported etc. The meeting was disappointing in that the representatives were not available for a "person to person" question and answer session as had been anticipated." Role call was made. Choice Care: Nancy Wykstra from "Choice Care" explained that Choice Care is a health maintenance organization and its philosophy is preventive health care. The idea is to encourage people to get the work (medical) done because in the long run it is less expensive and better for the person. Senior Citizens Diirectory: Jan Johnson of the Crisis Center presented her project of updating the Directory of Services for Senior Citizens which the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens began. This directory's purpose is that of information and referral. Ann Azari volunteered to work with Jan on coordinating the Senior Citizens Directory. Identification Cards for Senior Citizens: In Minneapolis, Minnesota the telephone company sponsored a project where I'm O.K. stickers were put in the window - a checking system on the elderly and those in questionable health. The elderly would be checking on elderly. This project was recommended for Fort Collins. 0 2 Darryl Farrington will call merchants and see if they will support the idea of senior citizens getting a discount if they have an I.D. It was stated that this is really two projects - 1.) telephone reassurance program with the Salvation Army and 2.) an I.D. discount. of Membership Commit for attendance data. 1978: Mabel Kenney, Chairman committee members and asked New Business: John McGraw discussed utilizing volunteers in areas where the city can save city funds. 1. Volunteer Coordinator - part time 2. Using agencies like RSVP 3. Police Dept. - Elderly Security Program 4. Community Outreach - various fire stations 5. Downtown beautification program The April 12, 1978 meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens will be held in the Oity Council Chambers &t 2:30 P.M.
