MINUTES
SENIOR CITIZENS' BOARD
January 9, 1980
The regular meeting of the Senior Citizens' Board was held on
Wednesday, January 9, 1980 at 2:30 PM in the City Council
Office. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 PM by Chairman
Wilson Wilmarth.

The minutes of the December 12, 1979 meeting were approved as
written, Roll call was taken.
A. J. Martinez, Head U. S. Forest Ranger, Red Feather District:
Wood Program for Senior Citizens". This project began because of
the need for fuel for senior citizens. Cutting and stacking wood
was done by the Young Adult Conservation Corp (YACC). In the
spring of 1979,20 - ton dump trucks stored firewood at the police
fire range. In the fall of 1979, 77 cords of wood were delivered
and there are still 30 cords of firewood cut but can't be gotten
to because of snow. Ed Chilcott and A. J. Martinez worked together
to get this program off the ground. The wood program could be
an on -going project. Ed Chilcott suggested the Senior Citizens'
Board continue to carry this project.
Committee Reports: Ed Chilcott reported on his recent trip.
Old Business: A report was made by Wilson Wilmarth regarding
input and recommendations to the City Council on the application
and selection process to City Boards and Commissions which was
written by the Human Relations Commission Subcommittee Members.

Wilson Wilmarth also passed out a letter regarding the Area
Council on Aging thinking about consolidating some agencies.
Dennis String discussed this topic further.
New Business: Guidelines for wood program eligibility, sharing
skills and useful services exchange. Two major guidelines are:
1) Heat for warmth not just for looking good in the fireplace.
Must have a wood -burning stove. 2) Must be 65 years old with
an income of no more than $10,000. The Crisis Center will provide
telephone answering service for callers who need firewood. The
Forest Service's involvement is furnishing the firewood. The
firewood is for needy senior citizens not those who could get up
to get the firewood themselves. Possibly the handicapped may
be added at a later time. The motion was made and passed that
the Senior Citizens Board adopt the previously mentioned
guidelines.
Ed Chilcott suggested that the Senior Citizens' Board write a
letter stating how poorly streets are cleared of snow.
The February 13, 1980 meeting of the Senior Citizens' Board
will be held in the City Council Office at 2:30 PM.
The meeting adjourned at 4:03 PM.
