HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 07/09/1980SENIOR CITIZENS' BOARD July 9, 1980 The regular meeting of the Senior Citizens' Board was held on Wednesday, July 9, 1980 at 2:30 PM in the City Council Office. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 PM by Chairman Wilson Wilmarth. Members Present: Wilson Wilmarth, Chairman Lois Chung, Secretary Chet Hannon Barbara Kienholz Esther Stratton Robert J. LaRocque Elsie Mae Russell Members Absent: Darryl Farrington Louie LaRoche Alternates Present: Lucy Tackle The minutes of the June 11, 1980 meeting were approved as corrected. Under Alternates Present it should read Robert J. LaRocque instead of Robert G. LaRooque. Roll call was taken. Barbara Kienholz, Director of RSVP, "RSVP and the Senior Citizens' Board". Barbara gave a history of RSVP and discussed its many activities: 1 income tax help; 2) schools - Chet Hannon talked about World War I; 3) Harmonettes; 4) hospital volunteers; 5) Panty Parlor - back to school program; 6) repair Day Care Center toys; 7) Food Coop; and 8) minor hare repairs, just to name a few. There aren't many volunteers to do housework. There was a suggestion from the Public Housing Authority - for seniors to work off tax dollars by taking care of Public Housing Authority Hares - general upkeep of hares, trimming shrubbery, keeping yard tidied up, watering yard, weeding, etc. There is a shortage of men as volunteers - they work as long as they are physically able to and will then volunteer. Co v ittee Reports: Chet Hamm reported on Kansas rebates of taxes on home- steads. He is waiting for more information. Old Business: "Directory of Services for Senior Citizens". Wilson Wilmarth passed out checks he had received for the Directory of Services for Senior Citizens. Only $25.00 is needed to completely pay for the Directory. Checks were received from the United Bank, First National Bank, and the Wilson Insurance Company Agency. New Business: Consideration of letter from Handicapped Advisory Committee. Wilson Wilmarth passed out a letter from Bob Wells about a joint meeting, exchange system, and requesting other cc meats. The Handicapped Advisory V. • -2- Caul-ttee meets the second Monday of every month at 7:00 PM. Esther Stratton will attend the July 14 meeting, and Barbara Kienholz will attend the August 11 meeting. The idea is for a member of the Senior Citizens' Board to attend the monthly meetings of the Handicapped Advisory Committee. Other new business is the need of a new alternate. Wilson Wilmarth was requested to write a letter recamnending Mr. Martinson, Manager of Eventide South as an alternate. Election of Officers for 1980-1981. Chairman Wilson Wilmarth was reelected for a second year by a unanimous ballot. Lois Chung was reelected as secretary by a unanimous ballot. The August 13, 1980 meeting of the Senior Citizens' Board will be held in the City Council Office at 2:30 PM. The meeting adjourned at 4:00 PM.
