Minutes of the October 9th meeting were approved as submitted. Guests were welcomed. A progress report from the Senior Task Force committee was given by Paula Pdakowsky. At a recent committee meeting, ways to dissemi- nate information on services to area seniors were examined, including such existing forms as the Guide to Services pamphlet, Senior Voice, Greening Leaf, and the Senior Service r der. The committee sees the thrust of a task force on senior issues as utilizing present and discovering additional communication tools to inform older persons and their families of existing services for seniors. Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson reported that a letter was sent from the SILC Task Force to Govenor Lamm and others concerned with legislative issues to encourage the placing of limits on insurance liability suits. d Chilcott reported that Govenor Lamm has appointed a review board to look at specific issues of insurance charges and liability suits. Discussion followed on the chances of a reduction of physicians' rates in the eventuality of a limit on insurance rates. Kelly Ohlson urged more political involvement in cost issues and remarked that// {�rgt Collins hospital is a public one. Therefore, its board mus44b responsive to citizens as well as physicians. He will check into the problem of rising costs of doctor's fees and bring the information back to the Board. Suzanne suggested that physicians be notified that SILC is trying to encouragelimits for insurance awards and that they be aware of the growing concern. Mildred .Arnold will invite Nancy Gray, a member of the hospital board, to the next Senior Board meeting. Mildred waill also gather information about the newly formed physicians' union. Dwight Saunders commented on recent Senior Service Finder articles. Articles for upcoming Service Finders are: - R.S.V.P. and rural postal carriers - a program of reporting older person's residences on rural routes that have accumulation of papers, mail, etc. - Holiday meals available in the community 3oard Minutes (cont'd). Nancy Jackson said that a request had been made of the Handicapped Information Office for input about the number of disabled seniors in the area for a marketing report being compiled by Jennifer Cathol of the Fort Collins Housing Authority concerning the retail, office, and housing complex being planned for the block across from the South College Safeway. The building will be accessible for disabled and seniors and a certain portion of the housing units will be made available for disabled seniors. Relocation of handicapped parking at the K-Mart shopp9ng Center is awaiting final approval from the center's developers. Iwo 7roups, the Handicapped Workers and Torch, are soliciting funds locally with the implication that they are a local, non-profit -roue, but in fact they are a non -local, private agency. Nancc reminded Board members of a SAINT open house today from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Senior Shopping Spree will be December 3 at the Foothills Fashion IIall. Shopping companions, entertainment, gift wrapping, and mailing will be offered. A letter was sent to Bob Lee thanking him for the parking permits made available to Board members for the time they are attending Board meetings. Kelly Ohlson informed members that he, b'Ir. Estrada, and Mr. Shannon had toured the vacant professional building at Prospect and Lemay with an eye to a possible future Senior Center. City staff has been instructed to do a feasibility study with cost analysis and possible lease/purchase options. Meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m. �eajeclk; sk�ub�i�Y egjP
