HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 03/12/19860 Members Present Patti Raco Yetta Rollin Paula Makowksy Joe Campanella Ruby Lynch Martha Bartlett Larry Richert SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES OF MARCH 12, 1986 Members Absent Pat Long Dwiyht Saunders Norman Wynn Mildred Arnold Suzanne Jarboe -Simpson Guests Kelly Ohlson, Mayor Pam Rose, Intern Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Ruby Lynch. Minutes were approved as corrected. Patti Raco's and Mildred Arnold's names were added to Members Present at the February regular Board meeting. Kelly Unison told members he will continue to serve as City Council representative to the Senior Board, with his additional duties as Mayor of Fort Collins. Kelly discussed current prospects for the new senior citizens' center and reported that Council is still looking into various options, Such as possible lease purchase of an existing building. Joe Campanella read a letter he had drafted to be sent to Council urging that a new senior center remain high on the City's priority list. The letter will be sent with an attached report from Nancy Luttropp concerning present and future needs for a senior center. Approval to send the letter as written was unanimous. Ruby reported that Poudre Valley Hospital administration was aware of the problem of early dismissals of older patients who may not have adequate care upon returning home. However, there still exists gaps in the availability of after care following hospitalization for some seniors. Patti Raco suggested the possibility of pamphlet distrihutinn under the auspices of Senior Advisory Board and possibly the Area Office on Aging. Joe offered to check with hospital administration about the possibility of distributing a pamphlet with information about community resources for those about to be released from the hospital. A suggestion to use R.S.V.P. volunteers as advocates for hospital visitation of the elderly was discussed. Pam Rose listed upcoming articles for the Service Finder, including the grief counseling program at CSU for pet owners and community education programs offered by Poudre Valley Hospital. Discussion of how Senior Board may become more vocal resulted in several suggestions. - A regular representative to attend City Council meetings, perhaps on a rotating basis. - A questionnaire to community seniors re: interest in a new senior center. - A representative to local A.A.R.P. meetings in the newspaper. - Notification of munthly Board meetings in the newspaper. - An article in ttie Service Finder about goals, objective, and accomplish- ments of the Senior Board. - A coalition with the Senior Center Board to encourage a new center and to exchange information between both Boards. Paula Makowsky told members she is resigning from the Board after the April meeting, as tier family is moving from Fort Collins. Meeting adjourned at 2:45. UIRECTIONS: The Training Center is located at 720 Wood Street. From College Avenue turn west on to Laporte Avenue. Continue on Laporte to Wood Street. Turn North onto Woud Street. Continue on Wood, over the Railroad tracks. You will pass a "City Bldg Complex" on your right. The very next building will be the Training Center, 720 Wood Street. It is a small cream building with a parking lot just to the north. (This lot may have lots of equipment parked in it.) Please park in this lot, walk up the ramp or the steps. The door to the building faces east. If you miss our building you will wind up in a trailer park. Turn around and come back!
