I. Call to Order
Meeting was called to order by chairperson, Joe Campanella
II. Reuiew of Minutes
Pat recommended that the usage of the word "possible" in itern
DTI, paragraph 3, should be ammended to "possibly". Ruby
motioned to approve the minutes as corrected. Sam seconded,
all approved.
III. Rnnouncements
Joe presented the board with Martha Bartlett's resignation. Joe
will contact Kelly and Suzanne concerning the replacement of
Martha's position.
Pat long has been appointed by acclamation as a representative
on the Communitv Development Block. Grant Citizens Steering
Committee.
Joe reported that in last month's 'Greening Leaf' paper there are
several workshops listed. One in particular is on Social Security,
to be held in October. Anyone iterested was urged to go.
Nancy informed the board that Sam's position is frozen, but she
has been allowed an additional 20 hours a week for one of her
part-time persons.
The shopping .spree at the Square <,%hll take place in December.
The Marketing Manager will be contacting all merchants and
Suzanne will assist in contacting; volunteers.

At our last meeting we heard that some recent literature by
S. A.I.N.T. was misconstrued by clients. Since that time,
Yetta spoke with the director of S.A.I.N.T. and read a notice to
us all from S. A.I.N.T., apologising for anything that may have
been misleading.
VI. Guest Speaker
Betsy Groom (Former director of Discharge Planning at Poudre
Valley Hospital.)
Betsy spoke about the process involved with Discharge
Planning, and how people could possibly be
discharged too early. With the pressure of Medicare regulations
and the implimentation of drgs, (Diagnostic Research Groups)
short cut_ are possibly taken, unfortunately, at the patient's
expense.
At the time of admission, all patients are screened for risk
factors and any possible need of assistance after they leave the
hospital.
Rounds are made once a week by a "team of health
professionals" for medicare patients. This team assists in
discharge planning & follow-up. At the present, the average
stay of a Medicare patient is 7 to 8 days.
All readmissions are monitored when entering to screen for
possible early discharge.
If a patient has a concern, they are able to contact the "Patient
Representative "(Marilyn Rodene) directly, at the hospital. She
will work with the patient to solve problems.
conclusion:
Patients need to be more informed about what to expect when
entering the hospital. More educational awareness regarding
elective surgery and what costs are covered by Medicare for
hospitalisation is needed within the community, along with
news articles and group panels to support an ongoing
awareness.
