Rick Ensdorff - City Transportation Department Rick gave the board an overview of the transportation department, and explained that the department consists of three areas: 1. Traffic and Engineering 2. Transportation and Planning 3. Parking and Bikeways Rick explained that all of the city's crosswalks are set on a timed basis averaging around six seconds to cross a street. This time is based on the average walking speed. Unfortunately the pedestrians do not always get the benefit of the light when dealing with drivers who do not always follow the rules of the road. The City's light system operates through a computerized system. With this new system it allows for more opportunity to provide a better balance for all of it to flow more smoothly. Rick placed emphasis on the importance of education among pedestrians as well as drivers on the rules of the road. Rick also told the board that they are always interested in hearing the concerns of all and that they are tring their best to accomodate all concerns. Some concerns of various board members varied from: 1) The pedestrian crosswalk at Poudre Valley Hospital and the lack of time to cross the street, 2) Is handicapped parking enforced when it is on private property, 3) Railroad crossings and whogoes first after the train goes by. 4) Curb designs and their affect when its bad weather II.
