HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 06/11/1980MINUTES SENIOR CITIZEN'S BOARD June 11, 1980 The regular meeting of the Senior Citizen's Board was held on Wednesday, June 11, 1980 at 2:30 p.m. in the City Council Office. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 p.m. by Chariman Wilson Wilmarth. Members Present Wilson Wilmarth, Chairman Lois Chung, Secretary Ed Chilcott Darryl Farrington Chet Hommon Barbara Kienholz Louie LaRoche Esther Stratton Members Absent: Elizabeth Peterson Alternates Present: Robert G. LaRocque Alternates Absent: Margo Rosenkranz Guests: Verna Lewis John McGraw The minutes of the May 14, 1980 meeting were approved as corrected. In the third paragraph, 5th line, it should read 'measured Rate Service' and not major service. Roll Call was taken. ins Citv Clerk: "Community Calendar and Its Lance to senior citizens." the Community Caaendar started under Mayor Bowling. The idea behind this project was for the calendar to be useful and updateable and not to conflict. For an item to appear on the calendar it must be for over 400 people. Monthly updates are printed in the Coloradoan. The Community Calendar is a contribution from the Coloradoan and last year both the City and County received and distributed 1000 each. Barbara Kienholz 4111 help on the Calendar Project. Committee Reports: None. Old Business: A. Senior Citizen's Directory. John McGraw reported that the cost of the Senior Citizen's Directory has gone up. Instead of costing $100 as it did in the last three years, it has gone up to $400. Possibly a bank will help sponsor the Directory. B. Darr 1 Farrin tan: Le al Services for Senior Citizens. Only sketchy recor s exist about this program. he Crisis Center will keep re- cords from now on. Only eleven people have gone through this program. Legal Services for Senior Citizens is not being used as extensively as it could be. Maybe the need wasn't there as much as we originally thought. The fee is $10.00 for the first half hour and is totally a half fee. An article will be put in the Coloradoan to discuss this project. Also, the Crisis Center will keep a record of who receives firewood. Update Information for files and Boards and Commissions Manual. Both Margo Rosenkranz and Elizabeth Peterson are resigning. Margo's resignation letter was passed among the members and alternate. A new member and new alternate are needed for the Senior Citizen's Board. Wilson Wilmarth passed out a list of applications. The Board will recommend some names for alternates. Robert LaRocque is recommended form alternate to member. A motion was made and seconded that Chairman Wilson Wilmarth write a letter in support of Elsie Mae Russell. B. Recycling. Chairman Wilson Wilmarth passed out articles on the Elderhostel - elderly travelers taking courses and living in dormitories; CSU Comments Recycling; and Services Exchanged. In the future Barbara Keinholz will speak on services exchanged. C. Bicycling. Should bicyclists face traffic or go with it? Ed Chilcott made his farewells to the Senior Citizen's Board. The July 9, 1980 meeting of the Senior Citizen's Board will be held in the City Council Office at 2:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Lois Chung, Secretary �
