Collins Coordirating Commission for Senior Citizens (to be called "The Commission") met for the first time on this date with Dr. Karl Carson of the Ft. Collins City Council presiding. 'Copies of the Hy -baps suggested for The Commission had been mailed to the 9 members and Mrs. C6ra.6chlim was introdue - ed to the other members as a Research Person due to her work nationally with Senior Citizens$ projects, Dr. Carson called for no4nations for the office of Chairman of the Commission and Mrs. Clara Anderson nominated Mrs. Joanne Knight for the position. She was unanimously elected, Harry"dawns was nominated for the position of Vice Chairman of the Commission by Mr,'NC, tifford and was unanimously elected. Mrs. J. W. Mattingly was nominated for the position of Secty- Treas. of the Commission by Mrs. Parker Preble and was unanimously elected. Mrs. Mattingly was also to handle publicity for the Commission. Dr. Carson mentioned that the City Administration through Tom Coffey City Mgre would be airailable to help with the clerical work involved in the C ssion"e projects, and requested that copies of the minutes of meetings be sent to Mr. Coffey. Paul Schneidmiller was absents present were Mrs. Knight, Mr. Asmue, Mrs. Mattingly, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Preble, Mr. Ufford, Mrs. Jean Locke: and Rev. C.H. Hinkhouse. A copy of the report of the Seminar on Community Services for the Aging October 1967 was given to the members for further study in what has been discussed in Ft. Collins. Nationally May isSanior Citizens Months, said Mrs. Knight, and she suggested a Senior Citirenm Meek in Ft. Collins. Mothers Day is May 12, National Nursing Home Week starts that day, said Mr. Awns. It was suggested that we might start Sr. Citizens 4ek in Ft. Collins on the 19th and Mr. Asmus, Mrs. Schlim, Mrs. Mattingly were to draft a Proclamation to that effect to be presented to the Mayor with appro- priate publicity. The various clubs in the area working with the Senior Citizens were inventorieds' the Golden Age Club (Mrs. F.a. Spitz) -- the Presbyterian Church Golden Age (Mrs. John Foreman) -- Clubs for Social Security (John Hodson) -- Happy Hours (John Sad- son) -- Pioneers (Dick Rudolph) -- ABC grmp (Rev. Hayden). Mr. Ufford was asked to meet with 'these organizations, and their, representatives to find their tsseds and programs and wishes, Mrs; Knight volunteered to visit the clubs too, Mr, Asmus was to find out from the Governor about any state plans for Senior Citizens during May. Mrs. Knight suggested that there.,be drawings downtow for the Senior Citizens of such things as a hair,styie compliments of various beauty salons. The gift of the 200 W. Mountain corner for the Ft. Collins Hospitality Center was discussed by Mrs. Mattingl with the consequent centralization ofactivities for the aging. Mrs. Locke vo2unteer6d.to arPange a meeting for Mrs. Mattingly with the Regional Director from Denver for the Title 3 funds to see what expansion of the Center could be brought about through this cooperation. Church coffee - Wednesday, May 22, 1968, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. All local churches - call church for transportation. 2. Aggie Theather 50s for all movie showings - matinee and evenings. 3. Poster contest in all schools - "Happiness is a Senior Citizen Friend". 4. Free coffee and doughnuts downtown for all Senior Citizens and possibly a Senior Citizens special. 5. Explanation of jitney service - Ace Taxi runs busst:op to downtown City Drug 25� - and Downtown to busstop (on map) 25� 9:30 1:30 10:30 3:30 11:30 4:30 A map will be printed and given to all who request one.
