The second meeting of the Ft. Collins Coordinating Commission for onior Citizens
was called to order by the Chairmn, Mrs. Joanne Knight on Friday, April 26 in the City
Council Chamber �,Ith all members except Mrs. Parker Preble present. The minutes were
approved as corrected. Hr. 'ems, Leuthauser of Denver was introduced* he represents
liaison with the Older American Division of the Colo. Mate Dept, of Public .Alfare
and the Covernor+s Commission on the Aging.
Senior Citizene Week was officially proclaimed for Msy 39 through 2%b. Mr. CC.

were Mr. H.A. Sandhcuse of the R A R C 1# Mrs, Jim Bielor of the Golden Age Clubo
Mr. John Foreman of the Presbyterian Church Senior Citizens Group# Mr, Ernest Harvey
of the Clubs for Social Security, Gapt. Easley and Mrs. Green of the Salvation Army,
Mr. Park Maxwell of the Friendly Forum of the Met•jodist Church, Mr. F.N. Jordan of the
CSU Ermitue Groups Mr. Roy.Dykewan of the LUTAer,Cty. Pioneers and Mr. Scott Henson
of the World car Z Veterans. Sugggestion# from these groups included discussion on the
Wellingtons Housing Project!, the value -Of visiting Senior Citizens wherever they are,
!lowers to invalids and the aged iru private hones, a survey, of the population not in
raft homes ter a census., the need for a Steter ng committee composed of the club members
to help the Coe+miacion. The Dial L Pra w organized by the Presbyterian Church and,
the :,enior Citizens Charter were called to the atteution of Comm "ion members.
Publicity for Senior Citizens :eek for radio and newt -papers will be handled by
Mrs. J.W. Mattingly. She will also determine the free shampoo and sets to Ie donated
during this week by members of the Cosmetolojy Board here. Coffee hours at the local
churches during Senior Cit®sans Week war= suggested for the older people and their
neighbors* Rev. C. Hinkhouse will develop this idea with the ministerial Assn. and the
Catholic Church representatives. Mr' ::ehnsidmillsr is in charge of the d�t�cs�
oofiise hour project,
Mrs. Jean Locate had further ideas for our Senior Communityt ball games that
would be free to those with Medicare cards, taxis at half rate during Sr. Citizens
reek, movies at a special discount. Harry Asmus will investigate the providing of
benchse downtown and in park areas surrounding the downtown# clearing this with the

City. Posters were suggested fur the Week with prises for high: school age young
people participating, using the theme RHappiness Is A Senior CitizenFriend." stirs.
Mattingly offered SLO,, for the lot prize poster, $8. for the 2nd prise,, $5.00 for the
3rd prise. Mrs. Preble was to be chairman of this activity and appoint the judges
of the contest, which will close May.17.
Mrs, Cora :30hlia was appointed Historian for the group, It was approved that
the City should pay the expenses for Seaty.Treae, record books in the smotwt of
$11,30 with Mrs. Mattingly to bring the bill to Mr. Coffey's ,attention.
Mr, iauthauser spoke briefly on the legislative activity concerned with Senior
Citizens in our state. He also said we are the lst city appointed Commission on
the Aging in the State& He gave us informative packets titled "Meeting the Challenge
of the Later Years" which win prove most helpful.
The Gomm9ssion will inset on Thurs. May 2 at 4?m at Mattinglyts with all
