HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 02/01/1971so Senior Citizen Commission Minutes - February 1, 1971 Members present - Mrs. Stegner, Mrs. Locke, Mrs. Preble, Mr. Boggs, Dr. Sobel, Bob Borger. Guest - Mr. O'Rourke. Bob Borger is the ASCSU student representative. His address is 1121 S. Howes, Apt. 405, 493-0868. Minutes - Since the minutes are now mailed to all members, Dr. Sobel moved, Mrs. Locke seconded that we no longer read them. Motion carried. The minutes were approved as written. Old Business - The new form for submission of Senior Citizen of the 'Month away s wi be in the minutes book with these minutes. Mrs. Locke said that Mr. Shili.e will be the candidate this month. Mrs. Clarence Alexander, nominated by Pioneer Association of Women and Mr. Charles 0. Gates, nominated by Fort Collins Golden Age Club, were submitted for future months. Mrs. Locke moved, :ors. Preble seconded that they be accepted. Motion approved. Bob Borger, Assistant Community Services Chairman for ASCSU, reported on the progress of their Senior Citizen involvement and we were greatly impressed. Approximately 100 students are helping, Tney have been Friendly Visitors, helping with home chores, cleaned up at Buckingham, have two parties planned, one at Ingersoll and one given by the Spurs, are helping it Gateway Workshop, as well as at Cody and Columbine Nursing domes. Buddy Cards - Mr. Peterson sent a report on the costs of Buddy Cards, as well as a sample. The price quoted was $80.75 for 500 and Rotary will pay the costs. We feel this is exorbitant and Bob Borger said he knew where we could get a better price and will inquire. Housing - Mrs. Stegner and Rev. Hinkhouse had attended a local meeting arranged by Neighbor to Neighbor with representatives from Denver Metro 'lousing Authority here. They will do the actual applying for housing loans if there is an incorporated organization with sound backing that has the seed money. They will provide a 4 day orientation program on the federal housing programs for CAP, Fort Collins and Loveland people. Mrs. Stegner hopes to be invited to attend. The Fort Collins Presbyterian Church is now organizing to build senior citizen housing. White House Conference - Regional meeting - Or. Sobel discussed the planning for this regional meeting to be held in Greeley, March 2nd, 8:45 A.M. to 5 P.•'.. at the Presbyterian Church. 200 can be accomodated so they plan to invite 250, meeting certain prescribed percentages of interest groups. The 14 task forces are as follows: Income, Transportation, Health, dousing, Nutrition, Err,ployment-Retirement, Roles and Activities, Spiritual iell- Bping, Education, Planning, Facilities, Research, Training, Government and D`on-Government Organizations. If interested in working in some area, contact Dr. Sobel. Irs. Locke is in charge of Housing with Mrs. Stegner and Mrs. Preble helping. Bob will get student representatives. linutes - 2/l/71 2 Meeting with Senior Citizen Groups - Mrs. Preble read a letter from the CSU Fmerti accepting our invitation and stating their representatives. Doris Atkinson and Mrs. Eileen Shields of the welfare department will be invited by lrs. Locke. Mrs. Stegner and Mrs. Preble will plan refreshments. Please attend this meeting if at all possible. New Business Mrs. Stegner read a letter of resignation from Mrs. Mattingly. She will ask the coucil for a replacement but for a 4 year term instead of a completion of Phyllis' which was just until October, 71. Ace Cab now sells a Senior Citizen Card for $10 a year which entitles the owner to ride anywhere in the city limits for 500. They started this program after the local transportation needs for senior citizens were made known at the forum. Discussion followed on the need for this program, the financial reliability of the company and the possib}lity of getting the program subsidized, or at least publicized. Mr. Boggs will meet with Mr. Ormsby, owner of Ace Cab, to discuss these points and report at the February 16th meeting. Meeting adjourned at 2:45 P.?'?.
