HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 12/16/1971ft as COORDTTTATI"TG CO7'4TSSIOTT FOR SENIOR CI PI7,77S Monthly Meeting December 16, 1971 The monthly meeting of the Com;issi.on was held at 10:00 A.'[. on December 16, 1971, in the Friendship Room of the Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of the Rockies, Tlowes and )Jest, Oak Street, Fort Collins. This meeting was held in conjunction with the regular meeting of the Fort Collins Chapter of the American Association of Retired People. Representatives of area Senior Citizens Groups were also present. Commission members present: Commission members absent: Mrs. Nancy Stegner, Chairman I=1rs. Doris S. Atkinson Rev. Clarence IT. Hin'.nzouse Dr. Douglas M. Murray Mr. Walter B. Peterson Dr. Harry Sobel Mr. W.J. Boggs Mr, W.R. Jim De,itloff Minutes mailed to Commission members prior to the meeting. A renort on activities of Commission was given by Mrs. Stegner. Included in this report were the following items: Commission is considering snonsors iip of a newsletter. In this regard It ?•ras sugi-Tested that each of the Senior Citizens groups present, select a reporter and submit names to the Commission o volunteers who would be willing to assist in the publicati.o1 and ci.rclilation of the newsletter. Mrs. Stegner requested that such names be submitted to the Commission in January. . Commission has begun to discuss plans for Senior Citizens Activity Week to be held in May, 1972; particularly as to theme, invitation to a Jr. High band to participate in the pararle, seeking assistance from the Chamber of Commerce, and selection of a chairman frgm the Senior Citizens. Mrs. Stegner requested that names of suggested chairman be sent either to herself or to the sec ,etary, Mrs. Atkinson. Mrs. Stegner (in the absence of Mr. John Irlaggoner, chairman o the organization, Taxpayers :for Property 'Pax Relief) gave a program on tax relief for seniors. She discussed the program as it is presently functioning in the City and County of Boulder, Colorado. Neither Mr. Robinson nor Mr. Leuthauser of the Colorado State Department of Social Services were able to accept the invitation of the Commission to present the program for this meeting. Mrs. Stegner stated that it is the plan of the Commission to meet with Mr. Reynolds, City planner, to discuss tax relief for seniors, and following this meeting, to renort to Senior Citizens groups. Mr. Avery Bice of AARP also suggested that the Commission meet with the Poi0re R1 School Board for the purpose of discussing tax relief for seniors. The next meeting of the Commission will be held in the City Council Chambers at 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 12, 1972. Doris S. Atkinson Secretary
