HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 04/12/1972lil a I3w COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS Monthly Meeting April 12, 1972 The monthly meeting of the Commission was held at 3:30 p.m. on April 12, 1972, in the City Council Chambers. Commission members present: Commission members absent Mrs. Nancy Stegner, Chairman Mr. Walter B. Peterson Mr. W. J. Boggs Mr. W. R. Jim Deitloff Rev. C. H. Hinkhouse Dr. Harry Sobel Mr. Charles N. Shepardson Dr. Douglas Murray The meeting was called to order by the Chairman. Minutes of the preceding meeting were not read but will be distributed with minutes of this meeting. Recreation Center Program: Wes Sargent, Superintendent of Recreation, reported on the program for senior citizens at the Recreation" Center at City Park. This includes: pool, shuffleboard, cards and other games, dances and craft activities. The Center is open to all senior citizens from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday of each week. Senior Citizens Newsletter: Sargent also reported on plans for a Senior Citizens Newsletter. Walt Peterson and Herb Heineman were appointed to contact all senior citizen organizations and attempt to secure correspondents to report their activities to the Newsletter office. Senior Citizens Week: The period May 13 - 20, 1972, was designated as Senior Citizens Week. Mrs. Stegner will contact the Mayor regarding a proclamation and ask him to serve as Marshall of the parade. The following activities were scheduled: Parade - May 13 - 10:30 a.m. - Wes Sargent in charge. Picnic - May 13 - noon - City Park - Nancy Stegner and Liz McKelvey in charge. Dance - May 15 - 8:00 p.m. - Recreation Center at City Park - Sargent in charge. Friendship coffees - May 17 - 10:00 a.m. - at all churches - Rev. Hinkhouse in charge. Hobby Show - May 15-16-17 - Courthouse Auditorium - Mrs. Walter Tiams, Walter Cropper, Helen Fisher, Dr. Austin Simonds in charge. Bus Tour and Picnic - May 20 - 10:30 a.m. - Nancy Stegner in charge and Girl Scouts to assist. Tax $ Rent Survey: Mrs. Stegner reported on the result of question- aires returned to date. It was agreed that the effort to obtain additional returns would be continued until our May meeting and that no results would be given out until that time. Meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. The next meeting of the Commission will be held in the City Council Chambers at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 1972. Charles N. Shepardson Secretary
