HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 08/24/1972171 W COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SF,NIOR CITIZENS Special Meeting August 24, 1972 A special meeting of the Commission was held at 3:30 p.m. August 24, 1972 at the Golden Pear Tea Room. Members present: Nancy Stegner, Chairman W. B. Peterson, Vice Chairman Charles N. Shepardson, Secretary Jim Deitloff Visitor: Ed Martin Members absent: W. J. Boggs Rev. C. H. Hinkhouse The meeting was called to order by the Chairman. The minutes of the meeting of August 9, 1972 were approved as mailed. The principal purpose of the meeting was to consider the report of the special committee appointed to draft a proposal for City tax relief for senior citizens (report attached). After considerable discussion, it was agreed that the proposal should be amended to provide separate eligibility standards for individuals and for couples; also that the gross income standards used in the Boulder Tax Relief Ordinance of $3,600 for individuals and $4,100 for couples should be raised to $4,000 and $4,500 respectively to take account of the inflation since the Boulder action. It was agreed that the Chairman and the Secretary should draft a recommendation to the Mayor and City Council based on the amended committee report and that this recommendation should be presented to the Mayor for his comment prior to any publicity of the proposal. The Secretary called attention to the confusion regarding terms of office of the members. He was authorized to prepare a proposed amendment that would reconciliate the confusion and provide for four classes of members, thus permitting an orderly rotation on a four-year term basis. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m. The next meeting of the Commission will be held in the City Council Chamber at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 1972. Charles N. Shepardson Secretary
