COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
April 10, 1974
The regular meeting of the Commission was held in the City Council
Chambers at 2:30 p.m. on April 10, 1974.

Also present: Mrs. Naureene Winzer, Co. Soc. Serv. Dept.

There was no March meeting.
Minutes of the February meeting were approved as mailed.
Day Care Center: Mrs. Winzer presented the attached proposal developed
by an "Ad Hoc" Committee consisting of Mrs. Bigelow, Mrs. Winzer, Mr. Peterson,
Dr. Art Jones, Dr. Fred Chambers, Ilene Shields, Betty Harsha, Rhonda Guthrie,
and Shelby Aust.
The Commission voted to give tentative endorsement to the proposal
and appointed the Ad Hoc Committee together with such additional representatives
of senior citizen groups as they desired as a task force to canvas the need,
further develop the program, prepare a proposed set of bylaws and a list of
proposed directors for a supervisory board, and to report back to the Commission.
Homemaker Service: John McGraw reported that the City Council has
entered into a contract with the Volunteers Clearing House to operate the
program of soliciting and arranging for the training of workers and then pro-
moting this program and assigning workers.
Transportation: Mr. Brunton reported on plans for the coordinated
operation of Care -A -Van and the proposed City bus system. The City has pro-
vided an extra bus for Care -A -Van and has purchased 3 Mercedes Benz buses for
early delivery to be operated by the City. Dicisions as to fares, routing,
etc., are still pending. The manager of Care -A -Van has quit and the Council
and Care -A -Van Board are considering the possibility of one manager for both
systems.
The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
The next meeting of the Commission will be held at 2:30 p.m., on
Wednesday, May 8, 1974, in the City Council Chambers.

Since there is no similar program in Colorado (to our knowledge), the project
mn _e considered a ",Pilot Phrogran" and be used as such by COG.
Tne Center would complement services already offered by nursing homes and
":ho.,e:na-ter services". . It would not conflict with these services. .
In planning for such a Center, we look to the following needs:
1) A building with the following areas: an activity room for crafts and games, a
-__wary, space for physical therapy, beds in a "napping area", kitchen and dining spa
?) f to include a director, nurse, cook, and custodian.
