COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
November 10, 1976
The regular meeting of t1je Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was held on
Wednesday, November 10, 1976 in the Parlor of the First United Methodist Church at
1005 Stover at 2:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order at 2:45 P.M. by
Chairman Fran Bigelow.
Members Present: Rev. Fran Bigelow, Chairman

The minutes of the November 10, 1976 meeting were approved as read. The following
is today's agenda: Reports; Community Education Center Coffee - Sue Russell reported
on the coffee held Wednesday, October 27 at the Community Education Center. The idea
for the coffee is to let everyone know the Mental Health Clinic is here and to get
to know others in the same field. Council on Aging Progress. The meeting is held the
second Tuesday of each month. The last meeting was in Wellington and the next meeting
will be in Berthoud, December 14 at 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at the Lions Club. A sack
lunch follows.
A special food program for Senior Citizens of the VFW was reported on by Jim Conlon.
This program is similar to Meals on Wheels and is also the Title VII program taken
over from the Salvation Army.
It has been suggested that the City Council review the rules on the use of the
Community Center. Other groups besides groups already having meetings there should
be able to use the Community Center.
Old Business: Update of Accomplishments-Dunford. This report will be made at the
next meeting. Buddy Cards -Bigelow. Annual Report -Chung.
New Business: 1977 Senior Citizen Directories. It was suggested that the 1977 Senior
Citizen Directory be translated into Spanish. Also, we need to add Legal Services
to the 1977 Directory of Services.
_Mental health Clinic Program for Aging. The Mental Health Clinic now has an alcoholic
program. Mulberry Center started 3 years ago on $100. There are several services to
be provided to senior citizens: 1) volunteers to provide counseling to odder persons

who have lost a loved one ornao depressed. Preventive Psychiatric Care.
2) long-term psycho -therapy provided by the hospital; 3) community groups and
agencies can do various kinds of counseling; Ex: 1) Death and Dying, 2) Better
Communication; 3) Being assertive; 4) Group for newly widowed persons- pot luck
supper and group discussion; 5) Services to nursing homes - facing depression,
sex after 60 - privacy in nursing homes; losses in dying. 6) Day Care Center.
At the next meeting, suggestions for re-editing the 1977 Directory will be
appreciated• Also to check out all legal services for senior citizens. The
December 8 meeting for the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens will be held
at the First United Methodist Church at 1005 Stover at 2:30 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 P.M.
