COORDINATING COMMISSION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
February 9, 1977
The regular meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens was
held on Wednesday, February 9, 1977 in the Parlor of the First United
Methodist Church at 1005 Stover at 2:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order
at 2:30 P.M. by Chairman Fran Bigelow.
Members Present: Rev. Fran Bigelow, Chairman

The minutes of the January 12, 1977 meeting were approved as read. Today's
Agenda includes: MINUTES; CORRESPONDENCE; COMMITTEE REPORTS-Hommon-Utilities --
Dunfo_rd_-State OrAanizations; OLD BUSINESS- Seminars/Forums for Senior Citizens;
and Families of Senior _Citizens; NEW BUSINESS -Distribution of Directories;
Appreciation_Dinner - Recommendation for Additional Member - Petition and
GUESTS - Community Education.
Mr. Ellenberger explained the plight of the Senior Citizen in respect to
inheritance tax. An average home is worth $30,000 and some people have to
sell their home to pay the inheritance tax. The Larimer Council on Aging is
trying to change the law to an exemption of $30,000. Chairman Fran Bigelow
posed the question of what approach this committee should take. We will deal
with this issue in the future.
CORRESPONDENCE: A letter of resignation was read from Mrs. Daisydeane Lannon.
Due to illness she has had to resign. The Coordinating Commission for Senior
Citizens accepts Daisydeane's resignation with regrets. A note accepting her
resignation has been sent.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Chet Hommon gave his report about Utility Rebates. If a
person gets only water from the city his rebate should be $16.80 + $2.97 = $19.77.
If a person gets only electricity then the rebate should be $4.44 + $.79 = $5.23.
If a person gets both water and electricity then the rebate would be $25.00. A
recommendation that the city would have to rewrite the ordinance was made. A

Memorandum from John McGraw was handed out to each member of the Commission.
Chet Hommon moved that the matter of rebates be tabled until the March 9, 1977
meeting. Jim Conlon seconded the motion. More information will be sought.
Dunford - State Organization - Ginny Dunford will report on this at our March 9,
1977 meeting. Fran Bigelow did write to the Governor's Council on Aging.
OLD BUSINESS: Seminars/Forums for Senior Citizens and families of Senior Citizens.
Much interest has been expressed by the various local agencies: Anita Basham,
Home Helps; Peg County, Parks and Recreation Dept.; Bill Robinson, RSVP, Hank
Gardner, CSU Counselor; Sue Russell, Mental Health; and Linda Weaver, Community
Education, etc.
NEW BUSINESS: Distribution of Directories - 5,000 directories have been printed
and will be distributed to St. Joseph's C},rch, NARF, Meals on Wheels, Community
Center, CSU Counseling Service, Women's Club, etc. After the directories were
printed, they were folded at the First United Methodist Church on a folding
machine and stapled at DMA under the supervision of Bill Robinson, RSVP.
Appreciation Dinner: The Annual Appreciation Dinner for the city's Boards and
Commissions will be on Thursday, February 24, at the Holiday Inn.
Recommendations for additional member: We need another member to take Daisydeane's
place.------- --- ----
GUESTS: Bernadette Tholan reported on her work with CETA through Community
Education.
The March 9, 1977 meeting of the Coordinating Commission for Senior Citizens
will be held in the Parlor of the First United Methodist Church at 1005 Stover
at 2:30 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 P.M.
