FORT COLLINS SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
The Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board held a regular meeting on Wednesday, September 10,
1997 at the Senior Center.

CITY COUNCIL LIAISON - Ann Azari
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by the chair, Yvonne Myers at
2:00pm.
CITIZEN PARTICIPATION: None
CORRESPONDENCE: New City Boards and Commission Manuals were handed
out.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of August 13, 1997 were approved. 8-0
with the following change. Under G. Clarification of changes.
VI. GUEST SPEAKER: Kay Rios, representing the Multicutural Commission. Kay
gave a history of the formation of the commission. The commission is now able to move
forward with their charge and is in need of people representing the older population. Kay also
asked if the board would be willing to cosponsor the Multicultural Forum on December 6, 1997.
A vote was taken in favor of cosponsoring the event by lending name and volunteers. It was
approved 9-0.
Tracy Thomas was also present to give an update on the Vet -Pet program and Elder Care. The
Vet -Pet program has $260.00 left. When the money runs out the clients will then be able to be
helped under the Elder Pet Care program that has received numerous grants. One of these grants
being the one to place pets in older adults' homes. This grant has not been utilized as to date. It
was agreed by members that when new grants were being applied for the, Board would provide a
letter of support.

VII. OLD BUSINESS:
A. OUTREACH MEETINGS UPDATE: The October 9, 1997 meeting will be
at noon, at the Plymouth Congregational Church.
B. RECREATIONAL FEES: Yvonne received numerous calls, with the
outcome being that the Parks and Recreation Board voted to keep the fees as
they are.
C. SENIOR HOUSING: Kay reported that the results were being tabulated
from the DMA Plaza survey and would be available soon. Kay also received a
call from a resident at Oakbrook stating that she had been afraid to be honest
about the situation there, for fear of retaliation from manager. Research is being
conducted to document such a claim.
D. SAGE NET: Ed reported luncheon plans are proceeding.
E. TRANSPORTATION: Next meeting of Advisory Board October 2, 1997.
The in-house running of Dial -a -Ride is proceeding and should be completed by
October 1, 1997.
F. HUMAN RIGHTS ORDINANCE: A letter was sent but to date no response.
G. POLICY AGENDA: A sub -committee was formed to send the letter to City
Manager.
H. TRIAD: A Vista volunteer is taking over the TRIAD program. The media
was unwilling to write about possible scams on seniors after the flood, due to no
reporting of such incidence.
I. COMMUNITY HOMECOMING: There will be an application meeting on
September 16, 1997, 7pm at the Senior Center.
J. CHILI COOKOFF: Gifts for cook bags are still needed. Teams are
organized and have donors for supplies.
K. WEATHERIZATION: No report.
L. LIAISON'S :Cindy Osborn is the new Lifestyles Editor. Style Magazine is
doing a edition on Positive Aging. Working Women's Conference is November
6, 1997. Booth possibilities are being checked out. Friends of the Senior
Center will have the Cemetery Crawl on September 27, 1997.
