Support Suprv. — Recreation Division Guest(s) Present: Anna DeCrescentis Call Meetin¢ to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m, by Ryan Hennig, chairperson. Approval of Minutes from December, 2005 On a motion by Lee Swanson and seconded by Erin Rooney, the minutes of the regular meeting on December 7, 2005 were approved unanimously. Agenda Review: No changes to the printed agenda. Citizen Participation: No citizen participation. Agenda: BATTLE OF THE BANDS UPDATE The deadline for bands to apply for this January 271h event is January 13. Kristie Blackmon made posters and flyers for distribution at the various junior and senior high schools. Matt Strauch has some experience running the sound board and will help with that, Ryan Hennig will contact recording studios, Peggy Bowers will provide refreshments, Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop will provide door prizes, and YAC staff will provide free YAC memberships and passes to Club 78. Matt Strauch, Kristi Thomas and Ryan Hennig will help Kristie Blackmon review audition tapes. The proceeds from this event will go to the Inspiration Playground. SPEAKER SERIES The planning for the Speaker Series that Board members decided to host is underway. City Council member Kurt Kastein will be the first speaker on February 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Center. The Board members would like for Mr. Kastein to speak on the state of the city as it relates to youth as well as the function of the Youth Advisory Board. Twenty minutes will be allowed for his presentation followed by 10 minutes of questions and answers. The regular Board meeting will follow immediately after. Youth Advisory Board Minutes January 4, 2006 Page 2 The second speaker in the three-part series will be from the Latimer County Workforce Center on Wednesday, March 1. The agenda will follow the same format, and the presentation will be held at the Senior Center. The third speaker has not been finalized, but when that occurs, posters and flyers will be available for distribution to schools, etc. YOUTH PROGRAM UPDATE January calendars for YAC activities were distributed to Board members. Staff reported that memberships increased in December. Club 56 will be held on Saturday. This activity for 5`h and 61h graders includes games and contests, crafts, climbing wall, karaoke and great fun. Volunteers are needed. Club 78 for 7`h and 81h graders will be held on the 3`d Saturday of January; again, volunteers are needed. Ski trips to Winter Park are at capacity. The Job Guy workshop, which is conducted by Board member Lee Swanson, is scheduled for January 19. OTHER BUSINESS No other business.
