HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 11/18/19870 P•wTT_"_iG OF ^_? SENIOR ADVISORY 3CA_R.D NOWT i•ER 18, 1987 . Called to order by Joe Campanella at 1:35 P. M. BIembers present: Joe Campanella, Pat Long, Philip Simon, Nancy iuttropp, and Lucy Tackle. Members absent: Dwight Saunders, Mildred Arnold, Yetta Rollin, Arlene Simon, and Sam Rosenthal. Joe talked about the sale of advertising space in the new Senior Service Guide booklets and the prices of these spaces. He explained the plan to sell advertising space in the center pages to restaurants and lawyers who give discounts to seniors. His goal is to raise $5,000. Joe, Ruby, Stan, and Jerry are working on this. Pat Long said he would contact CBG3 Board to obtain donation. Lucy Tackle presented a report (for Mildred Arnold) on Traffic Control in the Foothills Fashion Mall area. She distributed copies of a recent Coloradoan Newspaper clipping on this subject. She reported that Joe Frank said P & Z Board plan to make a "neckdown" -- narrowing Stanford Street by widening the sidewalks to facilitate pedestrian crossing. There were no plans to install traffic signal light or a caution sign. We need to see Rick Ensdorff (221-6609) for a caution sign like "Caution, Seniors Crossing!" Closing East Foothills Parkway and Monroe Street will put more traffic on Stanford. The fast increased flow of traffic on Stanford will make it difficult for seniors to cross to the shopping center and to catch the bus. Joe Frank said city would evaluate this but did not think traffic was enough to merit a traffic light. Joe Campanella suggested that maybe the Pall would donate land for a bus drive—thru. Joe and Sam will speak to Rick Ensdorff on consideration of pedestrians in this area and also about the traffic light near the hospital on Lemay. Nancy Luttropp distributed copies of the Fort Collins Listing of Boards and Commissions and talked about a survey to be sent to all seniors about what they want in the new senior center. Joe gave Nancy copies of the Loveland and the Greeley. Senior Center surveys. Y-ancy asked acting secretary to contact board members and ask each member to send ten questions they would like to see on this survey. She hopes to receive these questions by December loth. We discussed dates for the next meeting but, because there are so many conflicts in December, Nancy suggested there be no meeting in December. This was unanimously agreed on. Joe extends Folida^ `dishes to all. Meeting adjourned 2:45 F. i. Philip J. Simon Acting Secretary for Arlene M. Simon, Secretary
