HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 09/13/1989The meeting of the Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board was held on September 13, 1989. Those in attendance were as follows: Kathleen Jones Yvonne Myes Yetta Rollin Clark "Pat" Long Joe Campanella Barbara Schoenberger Billie Higgins Margaret Watts Kay Rios Approval of the Minutes Margaret moved to approved the minutes of the meeting of July 12, 1989. Pat seconded and the vote was unanimous. Old Business 1. Paint-A-Thon -- Joe gave his report on what he felt was another successful year. The Board screened and prioritized the applications. Twelve houses in the Fort Collins/Wellington area and two in Loveland were painted. Joe felt that there should have been more applications and believed that more advertising was needed. Barb added that she should have had the applications sooner and that the advertising should begin earlier next year. Other suggestions included: taking brochures to agencies, more radio ads, volunteer help in filling out the applications, focus advertising during Older Americans Month in May. Joe will take back the suggestions to Betty at First Interstate for next year. New Business 1. Orientation of new members -- At the next meeting, the Board will review the manuals, charges and goals of the Senior Advisory Board. 2. Name tags were passed out to members. Barb was responsible for getting them printed and the Board members expressed their appreciation. 3. Manuals will be available before the next meeting. Questions will be answered at that time. 4. Yetta suggeed that we have the Octom 11 meeting at Columbine West so Mildred could attend. Kay will invite Ann Azari to update the Board on the new Senior Center. 5. Future goals will be discussed at the next meeting. Joe asked Board members to come up with suggestions. 6. Quilting Teacher for Parks and Rec attended the meeting to tell the Board about the Christmas Down Home event that will be hosted by the Senior Center. Crafts and canning and other "home" product will be sold. It will be held on November 11 and 12th at Lee Martinez. They are looking for crafters, either groups or individuals. There is a $5 fee and 5% commission charged to pay for the administrative costs and advertising. All remaining funds will go to the new senior center. From the Floor 1. Board members discussed the new cap fee that City Council will be discussing. Joe felt it was unfair to restrict larger businesses to a $100 cap. He is planning on protesting. 2. Joe asked that members come up with ideas for officers and will nominate them at the next meeting. 3. Kay will contact Allnut and put our agenda on the radio if possible. 4. Pat told the group that the VIPS are looking for a senior to help a 9th grader who has cerebral palsy. He needs help with the computer. If anyone knows of someone who might be interested in helping please contact Pat. The school also need 30 b/w TV sets donated for an electronics class. 5. Adult Day Care Week is coming up and Elderhaus will have an open house on the 21st of September from 3 to 6. Elderhaus is located at 605 South Shields.
