Senior Advisory Board Representatives:
Yvonne Myers and Billie Higgins
Comments:
1.
Consider a multi -level building so that less land is
necessary.
2.
Senior center needs to be centrally located.
3.
Older people no not like to drive at night.
4.
There are many neighborhood pools. Is a pool necessary?
Particularly since pools cost so much.
5.
If senior pool incorporated in the center, youth could use
the two present pools.
6.
Older people are intimidated by using dressing rooms with
youth, therefore, many do not use the neighborhood pools.
7.
Consider an appropriate gym facility as well as sauna or
hot tubs.
8.
If two age groups use equipment, schedule separate hours.
9.
Transportation (Transfort) is necessary to make accessible.
10.
Times for seniors to bowl - open bowling.
Questions:
1. How many senior citizens in Fort Collins?
* Approximately 11,000
2. Where is the geographic center of Fort Collins?
* Spring Creek and College
3. How many seniors use the existing center each day?
* An average of 390 per day.
4. Why do we need a paid consultant?
* Consultant is an architectural firm that will not only
complete the needs assessment but also design the
facility that will ultimately be built.
5. Suggested sites:
- Near EPIC?
- Washington School?
- Church on Drake and Stover?
- Property north of Prospect?
- Property at Shields and Prospect?
* Site selection will not occur until 1991.
6. Why aren't senior programs highlighted in senior articles in
in neighborhood?
* We aren't sure what the expectation is, but we would be
happy to send out news items.
7. Why are most Remington parking slots permit only?
* None of the parking in the 100 block of south Remington
is permit parking.
S. How many square feet will the building be?
* Won't know until it is determined what kinds of programs
are desired, what kinds of spaces are needed and how all
that relates to the budget.
