Update o,i Dial -a -Ride: Jon Wright, acting operations supervisor and Joaly Lueck, aL ;,isory board member presented. Jon outlined some basic facts about DAR such as who it serves, when and where service is provided: • People who qualify under the ADA (who cannot access fixed service due to mobility) or have any type of disability. • Seniors above the age of 60. • 6:30am to 6:30pm Monday through Saturday. They are obligated to offer the same hours as Transfort so some routes now operate until 12:40am. • Mostly within the city limits. ADA limits service to within'/< of a mile of the nearest fixed route. • No-shows are their biggest problem. • The 1-way full fare is $1.80, the reduced fare is $.90, the hardship fare is $.45, and there is no charge for seniors going to medical appointments. • There are 18 vehicles with 34 drivers. • They carry 2.8 passengers per hour and are the 2"d most efficient paratransit operation in the country. Jon explained that he recently completed training to instruct all city drivers on passenger assistance and safety. He would be happy to work with the Commission on any sensitivity issues. His number is 224-607. II. The October minutes were approved III. Don shared Amy Rosenberg's letter of resignation. We now have 2 vacancies. IV. A discussion was held on the absentee policy. The commission agreed on a liberal leave policy that is reasonable without being too restrictive. All agreed on the following: 3 absences in a row or 6/calendar year are unacceptable. V. December meeting dates have been changed to Wednesday the 2"d and 161h. VI. Items for further discussion. • January COD orientation for city departments to be held January 24. • 1999 workplan --submitted by Stacey Abate
