HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 09/23/1999COMMISSION ON DISABILITIES MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 23, 1999 Those present included: Katie Kirkham -Miss Wheelchair Colorado, Easter Seals representative, Dave Ross -visitor, Susan -visitor, Steve Sutter- HP presentation presenter, Karen Wangvick-visitor, Allan Apt -COD, Nancy Baker -COD, Laura Burnett -COD, Donald Fish -COD, Mark Kramer -COD, David Marckres-COD, and Lila Vizzard-COD. Don Fish brought the meeting to order at 12:15pm, and introductions were made. HP made a presentation to the Commission concerning their yearly "disABILITY Awareness Day ". The purpose and theme of this function is about raising a positive consciousness or sensitivity level to disability and provide disability education. The presentation will be held at the Fort Collins HP facility October 6, 1999. John Fischbach and Diane Jones will be invited to the event. It will consist of demonstrations, simulations, vendor displays of assistive technology devices and services plus a presentation by Katie Kirkham: Ms. Wheelchair Colorado. This same presentation will be held at the HP Greeley site on September 29,1999 and at the Loveland site on Oct 12, 1999. It was also announced that the CSU Home Coming Parade will be held Saturday October 2, 1999 and Allan Apt invited anyone on the Commission who was interested in participating to meet with him. Election of Commission on Disability Officers was held at the September 23, 1999 meeting. The new Officers were elected and effective starting date will be October 7, 1999 and they are as follows: Chairman: Mark Kramer Vice Chairman: Nancy Baker Historian: David Marckres Member at large: Mark Beck Discussion and status on the Mayor's Awards continued at meeting. The nomination forms have been sent out and David Marckres is contacting the agencies this week for nominations. The three person committee on Mayor's Awards will be meeting to select nominee winners October 1, 1999. Next meeting of Commission on Disability was announced and will meet one week early Thursday, October 7, 1999 to vote on selection of the nominees for Mayor's Awards.
