Meeting was called to order at 2 PM by past chair, Yvonne Myers.
Citizen Participation
James Michalka and Beverly Thurber present as observers and
possible SAB members.
Correspondence
Yvonne presented a note of thanks from Nancy McCambridge for her
attendance with Barbara at CSU Outreach on April 5.
Approval of Minutes
Approved as corrected. Add Florence Williams' name to attendance.
Guest Speaker — No one
Old Business —Marjorie resumed chair.
A. Transportation — Florence
- Transportation tax defeated.
- Walmart approved. Revision of planning next step.
- Seat belt law now a secondary offense. Motorists can be
stopped and ticketed for violations.
- Governor's highway funding bill approved by House.
Traffic issues and transportation top issues for new City Council.
- Open house May 12 at 4 PM at Lincoln Center regarding Mason
Street Plan.
- Shamrock Taxi seeking state approval for higher fare.
- Kay reported transportation tax bill to be on a future ballot in
different form.
B. Outreach — Yvonne
- Report given on April 5 outreach at CSU which she and Barbara
attended.
- Youth Advisory Board meeting on May 5 will be provided with
SAB information and explanation of IYOP. SAB hoping for
their involvement.
- Countywide Resident Council in May. Need volunteers to
attend. Yvonne will contact us by end of week.
C. Housing — Kay
- Kaufman Broad Senior housing at JFK held up due to question of
tax credits. No specific reports available. K & B have applied to
City for funding.
- Elizabeth Street project coming up.
- Managers of Senior Housing complexes will meet June 16.
- Kay is now vice chair of Affordable Housing Board. Reported
that the City Attorney sees nothing to prevent the board from
first right of approval.
D. IYOP
1. Kristin reported Dignity committee in process of selecting sites
for photo displays. Yvonne reported as follows:
- Aspen Club has slide show — "A Society for All" available.
- Senior Center mailing list of available services being
processed.
- Elder care (for children of aging parents) information in
brochure and on Web Site
2. Embracing Aging — Third annual conference at Senior Center
May 1 — Details in brochure.
3. Grey Panthers — Marjorie — Video pertinent to all ages. Senior
Center hopes to obtain a copy.
4. "Women's Gathering Day" scheduled for October 20 has formed
a sub -committee to prepare format.
5. Yvonne — 10,000 tote bags with IYOP logo will be available for
Distribution at New West Fest.
E. Letter to Boards and Commission

Marjorie reported letter has been sent.
F. Senior Network Luncheon — Eric
Next meeting April 22 at Senior Center at 10 AM. Suggest
international food theme (Yvonne).
G. Ci1y Council Candidate Forum
Concensus — it was informative and revealing. Not well attended. It
was suggested it could have used more publicity.
Senior Center Council commended for their hospitality and
refreshments.
H. Le islation —Jim
Bill HD1166 to be heard today (April 14). Hope for increase to
$40.00 for monthly allowance for Medicaid patients in nursing
homes.
Yvonne suggested we invite Mayor Martinez to a SAB meeting.
I. Liaisons
Eric
- Southern Larimer County Senior Network — Working on
"Celebration of Life" conference to be held in October at
Chilson Senior Center.
- Health Care at McKee Medical Center April 17.
- Medicare patients will have the option to find a physician
starting in June at Northside Health.
- PVHS provides about $9,000,000 annually toward keeping some
services low cost (includes Meals on Wheels and Aspen Club).
Kristin and Christina — RSVP
- RSVP currently has 980 volunteers.
- Mother's Day luncheon explained. Details in distributed fliers.
- New Handyman is Guy Helme who is possible future SAB
member.
Marjorie
- Commission on Status of Women — No minutes received since
January.
- Soap performance to be presented on Friday, April 30 and
Saturday, May 1.
Fran
- SALT and TRIAD conducted a joint conference on March 25
about Frauds and Scams. Fort Collins and Loveland
participated.
- Next SALT meeting at Chilson Center on April 22 — Topic —
"Road Rage."
- Next TRIAD meeting as RSVP on April 28.
- City Council
No senior issues
Jim suggested that each SAB member be a liaison member of
City Council.
VIII. New Business
A. City Budget input — Suggestions from SAB:
stress Paratransit and Senior Housing.
B. City Line
- Detailed information distributed to each member to read and get
suggestions back to Barbara by April 16.
- Four calls this month.
