Shirley Reichenbach pointed out the minutes reflected certain individuals efforts regarding the NOD award. She wanted the entire commission recognized for their efforts. Yvonne Myers, a member of the Senior Advisory Board, appeared before the Board requesting a volunteer to help plan the new senior center. The budget is $3 million and it is slated to start construction in 1993. Meetings are starting soon in order for the architect to get input before the actual design occurs. Volunteers would be required to attend meetings from April to August with other agencies and businesses, getting their ideas. The meetings would be once a month lasting approximately two hours each. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 15th. Bobbie Guye and Roy Beauchamp volunteered. The purpose the various Boards he has a problem Information Fair Debriefing - Nancy Jackson questioned whether the fair was received well. It appeared to her there was not a good level of attendance. She felt the Old Towne event in 1988 had benefited from increased visability. Although Occupational Therapy also had an obstacle course that did have a good turnout. Part of the problem was the weather. It was a nice day and there weren't many people at the mall. COD Minutes March 12, 1990 Page 2 Greg said the obstacle course didn't work well and thought a purely informational booth would be better. Bobbie said the Commission might consider changing the time again to Oktoberfest in Old Town or in May for Handicap Awareness Month. The consensus was not to participate in the Handicap Information Fair as far as the obstacle course goes. But try to focus on accomplishments of the commission through pictures and with information only. Snow Removal Sub -committee - Decided write an ordinance. COD will draft a input. Shirley had 38 slides taken fc showing impossible accessibility. After reviewing State regulations, it was deemed unnecessary. The State provisions allow for two vehicles, and obtaining placards to be used when riding with other people. Quality of Life survey - Regi Robnett (221-0158) had passed out a draft of a survey to COD members in February and asked them to look at it and respond on how they felt about the survey. In the past occupational therapist always treated patients based upon standardized thinking on what their "quality of life" should be. Regi is a graduate student in OT and said after running into the term "Quality of Life" so many times, she decided that it was a generic term and it would mean something different to everyone. Shirley Reichenbach thought it was very good. She said she had to do some real soul searching to complete it. Nancy Jackson thought the number rating system was confusing. Regi thanked everyone for the information and said it would help her design a form that was easy to understand. 1990 Engineering ramp program - Guest - Kerrie Ashbeck, Engineer - Kerry said there is $40,000 in the ramp program this year and she is trying to get a priority list. Everyone told her they had earmarked areas of concern on a big map for Dick Valdez a couple of years ago. If she can find that map, it will help. Blevins and Rocky Mountain High were brought up. She asked that suggestions be submitted by the end of the month. Roy Beauchamp volunteered to go out with Kerrie and show her some problems with current ramp design. COD members were invited to call Kerrie directly with input at 221-6605. COD Minutes March 12, 1990 Page 3 OLD BUSINESS Pik n Save Update from Shirley. At this time, nothing has been done about it. Shirley suggested a memo be drafted to Jane Davis. Debra will draft the memo. Parking Reminders - COD members agreed to keep a log of where, when and the license plate number where the reminder was placed. Greg will put it on a computer file. Plan Review - Amigos - didn't know where parking spaces would be at this time. The mezzanine is not accessible, but it is not a problem that can be solved. Not enough room in the women's bathroom - made notes on the plans. UBC Committee -Shirley reported the control panel in elevators will be lowered. The push/pull requirement on commercial doors is currently 30 pounds. Mike Gebo has measured certain doors in town and finds that 17 pounds is very hard to open. There may be an amendment lowering that to 8 pounds as suggested in ANSI. The Colorado Share Program was discussed - with two hours of community service and $13 - a recipient can receive between $30 and $35 of pre -packaged food. Payment in advance is required. The pick up is the last Saturday of each month. Nancy Daniels, Catholic Community Services is in charge of this program. Further information can be obtained by calling 1-800-933-SHARE.
