HomeMy WebLinkAboutCultural Resources Board - Minutes - 05/26/2005City of Fort Collins Cultural, Library and Recreational Services Lincoln Center CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD MINUTES Regular Meeting -May 26, 2005 12:00 p.m. Lincoln Center 11 Council Liaison: Karen Weitkunat Staff Liaison: Jill Stilwell 11 Chairperson: Ayleen Burns Phone: 225-3937 (h) Vice -Chair: Ann Wilmsen A regular meeting and Fort Fund Session of the Cultural Resources Board were held on Thursday, May 26 at 12:00 p.m. The following members were present: Board Members present: Ayleen Bums, Sue Beck-Ferkiss, Carol Ann Hixon, Patrick Moran, Jack Steele, Jon Wilkinson, Ann Wilmsen Board Members absent: None Staff Members present: Jill Stilwell, Libby Colbert, Cheryl Donaldson, Marty Heffernan I. Call to Order — (12:10 p.m.) Ayleen Burns H. Consideration of agenda — No Changes to current agenda. Jon Wilkinson Moved to add a staff report/hot topics agenda item for future agendas Patrick Moran seconded the motion Unanimously approved III. Consideration of Minutes of April 27, 2005 Motion to accept minutes — Carol Ann Hixon Second — Jack Steele Unanimously approved IV. Public Input: None DISCUSSION ITEMS V. Arts & Humanities Month (October) — Poster Project Staff reported that Jeanne Shoaff of MOCA was excited about the Poster Project. She will approach the instructors of their summer courses to gamer support for the project and staff will report back at the June meeting. Carol Ann Hixon and Ann Wilmsen reported on progress they are making with promoting the month. Fort Collins Museum/Discovery Science Center Partnership — Staff presented a powerpoint overview about the potential partnership between the two entities. The discussions about the partnership are preliminary. The proposed location for the new facility is just east of Lee Martinez Park. Each entity would maintain their separate missions and 501 (c)3 status, etc. There was general discussion about the partnership and how the change would affect the Library. VII. Council Liaison - "quarterly meeting" Carol Ann Hixon and Ayleen Burns offered to hold the next meeting with Karen Weitkunat. The board discussed going to Council meetings and using the process and public input opportunities to educate Council and the community. Carol Ann Hixon and Ayleen Burns will decide on a date for the next meeting with the Council Liaison and Board members were asked to email talking points to Carol Ann Hixon. VIII. Review May 5'h Retreat The board set another retreat date for Thursday, July 28`h at 8:00 a.m. (7:30 a.m. food served),at the residence of Carol Ann Hixon. IX. Building on Basics Recommendations Staff reported that Council will meet on June 14, 2005. The Board recommended a change in the memo to council. Carol Ann Mxon moved to make the following changes in the memo to Council: The Board encourages the Council to renew the full '/4 cent tax and the Board recommends the following priorities: 1) the Museum/Discovery Science Center partnership 2) Lincoln Center capital improvements 3) Museum storage facility Jack Steele seconded the motion Unanimously approved X. Committee Reports & Review of Fort Fund events — The board deferred these items until the next meeting. XI. Other Business - None X.
