I. Call Meeting to Order: Chairperson Dianne Heath called the meeting to order at 1:48 p.m. A quorum was present. II. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Jeannette Namuth that the November 10 minutes be approved. The motion was seconded by Bud Herin. Motion approved unanimously. III. Correspondence: A thank you letter from Barbara A. Sarjeant, founder of Move-Eaze, was received thanking the Board for Bridging the Gap and the opportunity to meet other community providers. IV. Old Business A. CSU Parking - Ed Ronwin — Dr. Ronwin has requested that the SAB write a letter to City Council asking them to pass a resolution in support of seniors and handicapped to be able to park free on the CSU campus. Several suggestions were made during the discussion that followed including to request a reduction or the parking fee. Dean Miller made a motion to present the President of CSU with a letter suggesting lower parking fee. In order to write a letter like this it would require permission from either SAB liaison (Ray Martinez) or City Council. Concern was expressed that we need to hear more information from other sources. Therefore, the Board will write an inquiry letter to CSU and the parking manager for additional information. Don Wells, Marjorie McTaggart and Dean Miller were chosen to write this letter. B. Bylaws Revision Update - Bud Herin reported that he met with Ingrid Decker and they agreed that what they were doing did not agree with the by-laws. In order to change the By -Laws the City Code had to be amended. A letter was written last summer to Mayor Martinez. Bud had a meeting with Mayor Martinez about City Code changes and Senior Center expansion. A letter was sent to the Mayor with changes who then met with City Attorney Steve Roy. Mayor Martinez wrote back to the Board asking what reasons we had for these changes. Clarification of the thought process used in suggesting the changes for the Code, and therefore, the SAB bylaws were returned to the Mayor with a cover letter. Ray Martinez will take changes to the City Council; if three members agree, the City Attorney will be asked to prepare an ordinance change in the code. C. Report on Building on Basics - Bud Herin - Bud met with Mayor Martinez on Building on Basics. The Mayor confirmed that the expansion of the Senior Center was still being considered. He also confirmed that the City Council had seen our packet of petitions and letters. The Mayor and some other Council members told Bud to keep the SAB group before the Council. The Council will be meeting November 16th at 6 p.m. Two SAB members, Marjorie McTaggart and Jim Downey, are planning to attend. Bud has already presented statistics about the Senior Center to the Council. Dean Miller will be attending the meeting on December 71h. Two members of Senior Council are also planning to attend that meeting. All members are encouraged to contact their Council member personally. D. Presentation by Margo Karsten, Poudre Valley Hospital - Jim Downey — Ms. Karsten and Mr. Unger are scheduled to present at the January 12th meeting about transportation issues. E. Bridging the Gap - Jeanette Namuth & Jim Downey - Jeanette distributed copies of the summary of evaluations from the 2004 event. The cost of event was $4,000.00 and brought in $3,700.00, 195 people attended and there were 68 booths. Discussion was held as to where it should be held next year. The meals were very expensive at the Ranch and not very good. A sub -committee comprised of Jeannette Namuth and Sandra Gibson will investigate places to hold Bridging the Gap next year. F. Finalize Work Plan 2005 from meeting on November 4 - Don Wells made a motion to adopt the Work Plan 2005, Sandra Gibson second the motion, motion carried. G. Wine and Cheese Social with City Council - The Senior Advisory Board stated that they felt the social was successful and very please that the Mayor and four council members attended. H. Holiday Social - December 8, 4:00 p.m. - The holiday social will be held at Eileen Hendee's home. Everyone should bring snacks or drinks. V. New Business A. Senior issue Report - Jim Downey - Jim gave a report on "Living to 100". Lifestyle helps to determine how long you live: exercise, diet, and attitude. Statistics on different groups and cultures of people indicate that the Japanese tend to live the longest. B. New Member Orientation Luncheon - The new members of the Senior Advisory Board will meet with onping members for lunch at the Raintree Cafe 12 noon on Wednesday, January 12` before the January meeting. C. SAB Annual Report — Report is due on January 31. Board members will complete information at the January meeting. VI. Liaison reports A. Marjorie McTaggart announced the upcoming SOAP Troupe Holiday Show. The show times are Friday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. B. Marjorie McTaggart also informed the Board about channel 68, public access cable. There appears to be a possibility of developing programming for or about seniors. John Pfeiffenberger of the Senior Center staff is following up. C. Bud Herin reported that Senior Center Council is sending two members to speak before City Council on December 7 about Senior Center expansion project included on BOB. VII. Other Business VIII.
