HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 - Cultural Resources Board - Work PlanCity of Fort Collins and Recreational Servile Lincoln Center CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD WORK PLAN - 2005 VISION: The Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board envisions a community where art, music, performances and the stories of its people enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors. MISSION: The mission of the Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board is to advise City Council on cultural issues for the greater good of the Fort Collins community. Cultural resources are defined as the arts and history, all of which stimulate community potential and pride. STRATEGIES TO FULFILL VISION AND MISSION CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT & PROGRAMMING and TOURISM ACCOUNTS - (FORT FUND) Administer Fort Fund Funding Session - January Funding Session - April Funding Session - June Work with the Convention and Visitors Bureau when making recommendations for funding from the Tourism Account. Periodically review Fort Fund guidelines and procedures, and make changes if necessary. FACILITIES — Pursue possibilities and make recommendations to City Council on a new Performing Arts Center and on improvements to the Lincoln Center. Advise and make recommendations on the expansion plans and improvements to the Fort Collins Museum. Advocate for Cultural projects on Building on Basics (BOB) 2005. 417 West Magnolia • Fort Collins, CO 80521-2646 • (970) 221-6735 • FAX (970) 484-0424 0 Cultural Resources Board Work Plan - 2005 Page 2 COMMUNITY CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT Advocate and Advise on projects which may affect the cultural community such as: Arts Alive Fort Collins Public/private funding for City cultural projects Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau collaboration Designated revenue sources to support the operation of the city's non-profit arts, science, historical and cultural organizations (such as a Scientific and Cultural Funding District, a seat tax, an increase in the City lodging tax, Cultural Plan, centralized ticketing, and promotion of Arts & Humanities Month). Promote arts awareness through Arts & Humanities month as well as facilitate monthly awareness of cultural events in Fort Collins. Partner with school children in these activities. Raise the awareness of City Council members and the community as a whole of the value of the cultural assets of the city. Provide liaisons to the following groups and committees to support the development and awareness of arts and culture in Fort Collins: Art in Public Places Board Convention and Visitors Bureau Museum Advisory Council Establish a Mayor's Community Award for the Arts in Fort Collins. FORT COLLINS MUSEUM/ LINCOLN CENTER The Board will advise City Council on specific issues regarding the Museum and Lincoln Center. Assist Museum Advisory Council with promotion of Museum as a cultural asset of the city. Assist Museum and City staff with the development of new/expanded facilities for the Museum.
