HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 11/09/2000COMMISSION ON DISABILITY MINUTES NOVEMBER 9, 2000 Members present: Susan Williams, Mark Beck, Nancy Baker, Laura Burnett, Kathryn Johnson, Bob Palmer, Steve Seefeld, Rob and Romola Fritz. Guests: Ann Courtney, Katie Kirkham. The meeting was called to order by the chairman, Nancy Baker. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as amended. Kathryn told the members about a mobility transportation conference in Colorado Springs that she will be attending. There was a discussion about the need for better means of such transportation on the Front Range. Bob and Steve announced that they will be leaving their positions as commission liaisons in April due to a press of other duties. Another liaison should be appointed in January to allow time for Bob and Steve to orient the new staff member. Susan brought up her concern that the Transfort strategic plan does not include anything about Dial -a -Ride. The members agreed to invite John Daggett, head of Transfort, to a COD meeting to present the plan to our group before it goes to the City Council. Romola read a letter to the manager of the Fort Collins Wal-Mart store expressing our appreciation for the newly -installed automatic entrance doors. It will be placed on COD letterhead. Susan indicated she would provide the national E-mail address for Wal-Mart so that a copy of the letter can be sent there, also. Rob gave a brief report on his and Romola's visit to Estes Park with Barb Spalding of the Human Rights Office to evaluate the handicap accessibility of a potential conference site there. The members discussed the need to have COD meeting materials available in Braille, large print, or on disk for Kathryn. It was decided that on a trial basis we will have the minutes read aloud at the beginning of the meetings. The deadline for meeting agenda items will be the Friday before each meeting, and the agendas will be sent out via E-mail the Monday before each meeting. Romola will call Kathryn to read the agenda to her. Other print materials that are to be presented at meetings should also be read aloud if at all possible, if they are not available in Braille. The Boulder Public Library is able to put materials into Braille, and CSU will also have such a capability within the next few months. The members spent the remainder of the meeting time developing the 2001 Work Plan. Respectfully submitted, Romola Fritz Secretary
