HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 07/11/2002COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Regular Meeting Minutes July 11, 2002 Council Information Center, City Hall West Members present Mark Beck, Laura Burnett, Jill Lancaster, Susan Williams, Rob and Romola Fritz, Ruth Bell Skogerbee, Paul Ostrof, Diane Dittus, Alan Apt, Jerry Patterson City staff. Tracy Ochsner, Rachel Palmer Mark called the meeting to order at 12:12 pm. Laura took over at 12:25 after Mark left. Minutes approved unanimously. Motion made by Paul and seconded by Diane. Announcements: F�F� Wendall Pryor, new director of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission wants to meet with the COD on Thursday, August a[ 1:30 pm in the Council Information Center. He would like to get input and perspective from the disabled community. Nancy Jackson called Mark and asked him to take part in a panel that is part of the free "Advocacy and You" seminar sponsored by Disabled Resource Services and the Statewide Independent Living Council. The COD is invited to attend. The seminar is July 24 from 9:00 am — 4:00 pm (box lunch provided.) RSVP to 482.2700 by July 19. Sub-Committee/Program Reports: Heave Doors — David Green, Chair of the Occupational Therapy Department at CSU is very interested in getting students involved with the Heavy Doors project. City graphic artist, Brad Randall has taken the Heavy Doors brochure and is adding his graphic touches to it. 1 PHA — Mark and committee will go to planning and zoning commission after the next COD meeting to present their ideas. t Employment - No new developments. The committee will get with Cathy Schelley when she gets back in town. Tracy contacted Human Resources and could not find the previous training tapes from Cathy Schelley's last training with the city. Mayor's Awards - Diane is doing the centerpieces for the Mayor's Awards. These handcrafted centerpieces will represent `community." Art She — Susan has secured the Foothills Fashion Malt for an Art Show, October 10, 11, 12, 2003 at no charge. This will be just a show, no selling. Susan will pull together a subcommittee and start meeting in November after the Mayor's Awards. Accessible Technolonry — Jerry will meet with the city web master sometime in the next couple weeks to review accessibility issues on the library's web site. Other Business — Marlys Sittner emailed the city attorney's office with questions regarding liability about Dial -a -Ride drivers crossing the threshold of a home. Action: Tracy will forward to COD the email from Marlys to the city attorney. The Dial -a -Ride issue is on the agenda for the next city council meeting on Tuesday, July 16. The council meeting starts at 6:00 pm. The issue is V' on the agenda after an appeal. However, the appeal could take quite a bit of time.
