HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 04/24/2003COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Regular Meeting Minutes April 24, 2003 Council Information Center Members present Mark Beck, Jill Lancaster, Laura Burnett, Susan Williams, Paul Ostrof, Diane Dittos, Ruth Skogerboe. City staff: Rachel Palmer, Tracy Ochsner. Guests: Rob and Romola Fritz Made called the meeting to order at 12:25 pm. Minutes approved unanimously. Motion made by Laura and seconded by Paul. Mark expressed gratitude to Rob and Romola for their dedicated service on the commission and presented a plaque in recognition of their numerous contributions. New Business The Northern Colorado Cross Disabilities Commission (NCCDC) is holding a picnic to celebrate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA.) The picnic will be held Saturday, July 26 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at Rossborough Park. On May 13, the Loveland Disability Advisory Council (DAC) will hold its Annual Barrier Awareness Days from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. It starts at the Loveland City Offices at the comer of Washington and 3'a St. This event invites able-bodied individuals to experience being disabled. There was a suggestion from Susan that the COD research doing something similar in Ft. Collins. She will try to attend and see what is involved. Steve Sutter is the chair of the Disability Advisory Council in Loveland and suggested that we get the two groups together sometime this summer. Mark will suggest that we ask the Loveland DAC to join us at the NCCDC picnic in July. Ruth suggested that we consider appointing a liaison to attend DAC meetings to help facilitate communication. The DAC meets oncea month on the 2' Monday for 2'/: hours. Mark will get back to Steve and explore ways to work together. Old Business Rachel submitted the recommendations on the City Council Policy Agenda to the city manager's office and received a thank you from John Fischbach. Sub-Committee/Program Reports By -Laws - still working on Mayor's Awards - Roger will get back to the COD soon regarding the BLN proposal. Jill distributed drafts of nomination and selection ideas and would like feedback by next week (May I) from the Mayor's Awards subcommittee. Tracy will organize a meeting of the subcommittee when we are ready. Budget - revision with new figures from city manager's office will be distributed at the next COD meeting. Art Show - Next meeting is May 1 at the Ben Delatour Room at the Main Library, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. Ruth presented the poster that will be printed for the Art Show. The Mall's 3& anniversary will be in October, so the art show will get some extra PR because of that! Ruth will get brochures from Tracy to take to the senior center for them to hand out to artists that are displaying art at their art show the first week of May. Practical Housing for All - nothing new at this point EXCEPT Mark gave presentation on Practical Housing to a class at CSU and it was very well received.
