Call Meeting to Order: Chairperson, Mike Buderus, called the meeting to order at 1:45 p.m. II. Approval of Minutes: Darren Gunn made a motion to approve minutes for the meeting held on April 9; Chris Bartlett seconded motion. The motion was carried. III. Citizen Participation: None IV. Correspondence: A. North Front Range Planning and Transportation Organization has asked to present to the Board at the June 11`h meeting. B. May is Older Americans' Month. City Council has made a local proclamation and has also proclaimed the weekend of 16`h through 18`h Alzheimer's Awareness Weekend. C. The Accreditation Breakfast Celebration will be May 161h V. New Business: A. Bud Herin feels the corner of Magnolia & Mason is a dangerous spot for walkers and needs walk zone stripes. He will contact the Transportation Department. B. John Roberts's presentation will be June 11, 2003 at 12 p.m. prior to the June regular meeting. VI. Old Business: A. Mike Richardson & Dean Miller met with the United Way to follow up on concerns voiced by the Senior Advisory Board. Dean Miller sent a written report since he is out of town for the meeting. The SAB representatives suggested ways that senior issues could be represented more fully in the funding program for United Way. And the United Way will review their classification process to depict seniors in a more favorable way. Additionally, at the request of the United Way, Mike Richardson brought volunteer applications to attempt to increase senior participation on their panels. B. The members discussed boards and Commissions questionnaire. The Executive Board will compile the comments and complete the form for submission to City Council as directed. C. 9 Health Fair participation was evaluated. Many members expressed that they didn't believe that the event was an effective location to meet the goals set by the Board. It was suggested that the Board give senior resource information to other vendors at the event for distribution. Members suggested that other community events such as Community Homecoming or using the Welcome Wagon, Welcome Center or Chamber of Commerce could be useful for disseminating information. John Roberts moved not to pursue 9 Health Fair next year, Bud Herin seconded the motion. Motion was carried. D. The Board had questions about the status of the referral line, 211. Mike Buderus will follow up to get information on the National Program. Eileen suggested information be given to other venues at the 9 Health Fair. E. A memorandum was sent to the City Manager as requested with recommendations from the Senior Advisory Board for City Budget priorities. The City Manager responded with a memorandum thanking the Board for their input. John Roberts headed up the committee to draft the memo. The Board thanked him for his efforts. F. Jim Downey updated the Board on the Bridging the Gap, Senior Network Luncheon planning committee update. He reported that the committee has taken assignments. The next meeting will be June 18`h at noon at the Fort Collins Senior Center. G. Work Plan Review — Discussion was held about possible outreach sites. Bud Herin will investigate the possibility of holding the July 91h SAB meeting at Parklane Towers. Eileen will see about SAB presenting at the August Aspen Supper Club. In January SAB will host a Wine & Cheese with City Council. VII. Liaison Reports A. TRIAD — Conferences on Homeland Security will be held in Estes Park and Berthoud during May. B. AARP — 300 people attended the Caring Conversations workshop at the Senior Center in April. C. Tax Day Golf Tournament — SAB's team came in 4`n D. Larimer County Senior Network — May 9`n topic will be "Alternative Therapies for Older Adults". Featured panel discussion and topics are projected to include pet therapy, music therapy, reiki, therapeutic touch & acupuncture. E. CCERAP (Colorado Commission on Elder Rights and Adult Protection) The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 16'n from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 455 Sherman in Denver. This meeting is open to the public; continental breakfast will be served with no charge. F. AARP will not hold local meetings in the summer. The May -June 2003 issue of the AARP magazine named Loveland/Fort Collins as number one on the list of 15 highly livable towns VIIL Adjourn — Meeting was adjourned at 4:02 p.m. Executive Board will meet Tuesday May 27, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Next meeting will be on June I 1 at 1:30 p.m. Karen Bryner, Recording Secretary
